Signs banning guns taken down at Loudon County government office building

Loudon County commissioners voted 10 to zero Monday night to take down warning signs that prohibit firearms inside the county's office building.

This idea was pitched by recently elected Loudon County Mayor Rollen "Buddy" Bradshaw, who says this move is all about safety.

The signs were taken down Tuesday morning only at the county office building off River Road.

Mayor Bradshaw says the ban on guns inside county offices was outdated.

"What the gun signs in effect did was disarm a law abiding citizen, and I didn't feel comfortable being a part of that," said Mayor Bradshaw. "I think this makes us safer. In my opinion removing the signs is the same thing as removing a bullseye." Some residents 6 News spoke with are glad about the change.

Ruh Roh. Be vewy, vewy caewful. Nannie bloomer and his horde of anti’s will be swooping down. Funny thing is that during the last legislative session in NV in regards to BGC’s, we went to one of the hearings down in Carson City. When we entered the Assembly building and inquired as to which room the meeting/hearing was in, the guy at the desk simply asked if I was carrying and if so, I’d have to secure my weapon in a locker in the lobby. That was all. Pretty simple. I wasn’t in any case. But it looks like we’ll be making a bunch of trips to Carson City in the ‘15 session based on an anti initiative proposal for the ‘16 ballot.

"...removing the signs is the same thing as removing a bullseye."

Shocking when you hear common sense. Like a cold slap in the face. Gun-free zones mean only the innocent victims are unarmed. To a psychopath, they are shooter friendly zones.

London County in Virginia, west of DC. Not surprising, since under Virginia law, al local/county regulation of firearms is preempted.

OMG, a non-PC public official with common sense. A nearly extinct species! Very seldom spotted in the wild.

Every day I wake up glad that I moved to Tennessee. They respect gun rights here and make you show an ID to vote. Add in the much better weather than Wisconsin and the southern hospitality and you've got a real winner.

Newly minted Tennesseean and proud if it.

This is a county south of Knoxville.

Good call by local government. I hope they follow through and let their workers carry if they have permits.

Watch and see if Gov. Haslam injects himself into this. He may be a Republican but he is not a friend of gun owners.
