Woman’s home ‘stolen’ by squatter who moved in & filed a deed with NYC –

despite her family owning property since 1931
Imagine arriving at your own home and finding out a stranger is not only squatting there — he’s claiming the place for himself after he re-keyed ALL the locks to the house. AND even though you can prove the house isn’t his the courts drag their feet about evicting him because after all it is the guys residence– IN YOUR HOUSE! hat’s the nightmare that an elderly New York City woman is living, and now she is fighting to get back the house that she says an ex-con stole from her by filing a fraudulent deed and breaking in.

‘It just devastates me,’ Jennifer Merin told the New York Post. ‘The house was maintained basically as sanctuary to my family.’

Merin says that 49-year-old Darrell Beatty and his sons — Darrell Kash, 25, and DeShaun, 22 — have been living at the home in Queens since February. She says Beatty filed a bogus deed and moved into the house, which Merin wasn’t renting, then changed all the locks. She found out that the house that her grandparents, who immigrated from the Ukraine and Russia, bought in 1931 had been lifted back in May, when the water bill for the previously-empty home skyrocketed.

When Merin when to check, she found the locks had been changed and her 1992 Subaru Outback missing — along with most of her possessions. All of her family’s heirlooms — vintage furniture, photos, a classic television set — were piled in the garage like trash.

‘Everything from Chinese palace vases to my underwear,’ she told the Post.

Merin says that Beatty filed a deed transfer claiming that he bought the house in 2013 from a woman named ‘Edith Moore’ — who doesn’t seem to exist, according to public records.

‘I see them coming and going,’ a neighbor said of the Beatty trio to the Post. ‘I don’t think they talk to nobody in the neighborhood.’

The city’s Finance Department says the deed was indeed fraudulently transferred in 2013. A judge has approved an eviction for Beatty, but the order was stayed because the squatter says he is having health problems. Several reporters have attempted to confront Beatty outside his home, but he always refuses to comment. He only confirms his version of the story: that the house is his.

Shame on those men for taking over a house that isn’t theirs and SHAME on the court system for NOT evicting these criminals from the property IMMEDIATELY!

a few shotgun evictions and this problem will disappear.

this is a derivative of an “adverse possession” attempt.

Essentially this scum figured the old lady would die and he would have possession of the house long enough.

Adverse possession times need to be extended and preclude squatters.

This is common in every State. A person moves in, claims they have legal residence, even files bogus paperwork with the county, and you have to prove otherwise.

My advice, shoot the intruder! I am NOT kidding.

Get in then let them try to attack you and kill them.

Otherwise, they have legal rights to stay there until you go to court and get an eviction notice. They can destroy everything in the place and leave at any time, leaving you holding the bag for damages.

I had a neighbor’s house next to me go through this. It took months to get the illegal alien out.

Why would they not be immediately arrested for theft and fraud? I don’t get it.

“The local beat-cop can initiate a criminal complaint and have them removed forthwith.”

Nope. They have “rights”. Most States, if not every State, has eviction laws that say the cops must stay out of it. ALL it takes is a person to claim lawful residence. Beat cops cannot adjudicate it even if they know for a fact the person is lying.

Since Darrell Beatty is still in the house it must signify that Mayor Bill DeBlasio endorses the theft of homes. Wouldn’t be surprised if home theft isn’t a part of his re-election campaign.

Seems to me the City is an accomplice of the squatter. I’d eventually sue the hell out of all of them in civil court.

The adverse possession laws vary by state to state (e.g., 7 years, 20 years, etc.), but this possession has been ongoing for less than a year, which is highly likely to not fit that law at all.

That’s what I’m saying! It seems the disenfranchised are using civil procedure against squatters. Bad idea! It’s a criminal matter! Arrested and arraigned. ..tossed out along with their stuff. Immediately! No big whoop! Call a freakin’ cop! (Hide fido...)

This is why we have the Mafia. They can probably take care of the problem for $2,500.

Don’t think so.....unless there’s a contract that went awry. This is a different species. Plainly criminal.

I won’t print what I think should happen to the people who are trying to steal her house.

The name “DeShaun” makes me think the squatters are in a “protected” class.

And, yet, I know a woman whose boyfriend called the cops on her and they told her she had no legal right to live in the home she had lived in for years. The cops threatened to charge her with trespassing, disorderly conduct etc. Yes, she received mail there and it did not matter a bit.

True American heroes. Knowing what they did gives me hope.

Seems like it’s her home. Can’t get you for breaking into your own home.

Break in. Evict. Tough ——!

Crack a few heads along the way, oops. Really sorry.
