The last real death rate number was 84%. I guess it is coming down but somehow the rounded 70% number does not give me confidence they are telling the truth.

They were playing with the numbers in most news stories before by adding new cases in with those who had passed through the disease to give us the supposedly non panic worthy number of 50%.

I wonder why they don’t start planning for SANATARIUMS...like in the olden days, people diagnosed with T.B were sent out of town to a special asylum complex to get treatment with VERY limited access and visitors. I dread going to hospitals knowing in the next room is someone with Ebola.

OK, Freepers, time for action.

It’s after 9:00 am in DC.

Call your reps in DC and tell them the flights from West Africa through any hub HAVE TO STOP!

The place to fight this disease is at its source, not here.

The “screening” process at our airports is a joke and ineffective. 150 people a day are coming here from West Africa—that is 4500 a month. Some will show a fever and yet may be carrying the virus.

Our healthcare system will shutdown if this continues.

We already have cases in Kansas, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Texas.

The first order of business of a government is to protect their citizens. And this government is failing to do so.

Make the calls.

The family you save may be your own.

I'm not sure it's risen, but just that they've finally figured out how to calculate it correctly. They were always dividing deaths by cases, which is incorrect because it's unknown how many of the currently infected people will die. The correct way is deaths divided by completed cases. From what I've read, this time it's always been around 70% when calculated that way.

If they can't even calculate the death rate correctly, how much confidence is there in anything else they say?

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Logic is that with the breakdown in Liberia and maybe other places there are people who are dying and not being reported.

Yet, they will not stop those passengers coming from the Ebola infected countries from coming here.

I have so many questions on this and things are not making sense.

I wonder why the nurse in Dallas, who was wearing protective gear got ebola, yet Duncan’s relatives, in close quarters in the Dallas apartment, have not.

Why did the news camera man contract it when “splashed” by a chlorine spray cleaning an ebola infected car?

Dr. Bradley, who originally contracted the disease and who was brought home for treatment, also took precautions against ebola and got it anyway.

The relatives in the Dallas apartment, especially Duncan’s girlfriend, show no signs even after being exposed to a very contagious victim. Too many questions.

When all is known and done the actual death rate will likely be higher. Ebola Zaire strain is the most deadly strain with rates up to 90% during any particular outbreak.

Called my congressman, done. I asked, “why can’t we do both, suspend visas and shut down flights, and fight Ebola in West Africa. Why does it have to be one or the other, I do not get it, unless our greatest fears are now a reality, Obama is literally at his end game of destroying America.

Overwhelming the system is a Cloward-Piven strategy.

The death rate must be higher. I heard a lot of families and villages were burying dead that were never “confirmed” to be ebola. IMO, it is well over 85% but hey, 70% sounds better.

Apparently they are finally coming to that obvious conclusion.

From what I’ve read one hospital in certain cities will be designated just for Ebola.

I think it is quite possible that Duncan’s “relatives” knew or suspected he had Ebola, and quarantined him in the apartment before his symptoms became more apparent. One of them was a healthcare worker, and she was the one that warned the paramedics. I am thinking she was taking precautions, isolating him and probably using lots of bleach. Also, his viral load was probably lower when he first arrived, so he might not have been as contagious.

These are merely speculations, and I could be wrong.

Why did the news camera man contract it when "splashed" by a chlorine spray cleaning an ebola infected car?

Because he is stupid. He was not a "news cameraman" but a leftist agitator who did some freelance work for NBC. They hired him exactly one day before he felt feverish and two days before he was diagnosed. Then the leftist "doctor" Snyderman left the country with her crew.

The relatives in the Dallas apartment, especially Duncan's girlfriend, show no signs even after being exposed to a very contagious victim. Too many questions.

No easy answers, but obviously Duncan was not as contagious. Also he may have been careful to wash up after vomiting, etc around the apartment. His "stepdaughter" disinfected the place days before Texas bothered to send the "cleaning guys" over there.

Bradley handled a sick person with no protection before she was diagnosed.

If you are around a dying victim or their splatter, you will get infected. Before they are dying, earlier stages of fever etc, you will probably get it from contact or sneezes. Sneezing is not a normal symptom.

Possible numbers coming to the U. S.?

150 possible infections a day. If the infection rate is 1/1000 which may be low now, that means one actual infection a week shows up at an airport here unless they are caught in screening (doubtful).
