Donors Pledge $5.4 Billion for Gaza, Says Norway FM

International envoys pledged about $5.4 billion in aid for the Gaza Strip at a meeting in Egypt on Sunday, Norway's foreign minister said.

"The participants pledged approximately $5.4 billion (4.3 billion euros)," said Boerge Brende, reading out a closing statement at the Cairo conference which Norway co-hosted.

Half of the pledges will go for reconstruction and the rest as unspecified aid to the Palestinians, he said.

The donors "committed themselves to start disbursing their assistance as soon as possible," Brende said.

The conference aimed at financing the reconstruction of swathes of Gaza destroyed in a July-August war between Israel and Hamas.

Gas-rich Qatar led the way at the donors conference in Cairo with a promise of $1 billion in aid to the coastal enclave.

The Palestinians asked for up to $4 billion in international aid after Gaza suffered heavy damage in its 50-day summer war with Israel.

The United Arab Emirates and Kuwait also pledged $200 million each.

The international community insisted that Hamas's Gaza is in a "humanitarian crisis," in the conference of more than 50 international and corporate representatives in Cairo on Sunday.

Funding Hamas for another war the UN can wring its hands over. Genius.

Donors Pledge $5.4 Billion for Gaza...

Isn't that just great; it will be matched too!

That's right, for every $Billion donated to Gaza, probably $5 Billion will be donated by Israel...

... to have to counteract that Billion sent to Gaza.

Imagine an unsuccessful bank robber that killed a lot of people each armed robbery attempt.

Then imagine they get caught.

Then imagine people around the world take up a collection for them, so they can try again.

Now toss in a little Arab vs Jew dynamics, you’ve got it.

What’s more, our own government will chip in.

Half of the pledges will go for reconstruction and the rest as unspecified aid to the Palestinians, he said.

Half of the pledges will go for reconstruction and the rest for terrorist tunnels and weapons. Obama must be celebrating.

Just strikes me odd when someone posts solely from a non-Christian foreign site.

You seem to be the only one that has that problem. So long as the information is true, why would the fact that it comes from a {{{oy vey!}}}non-Christian foreign site (BTW, Israel is NOT foreign to ME) have ANYTHING at ALL to do with its believability? If a FReeper lived in France, it would be logical that they would mostly post from French papers. If memory serves me correctly, Eleutheria lives in Israel. So she would therefore logically post from the news source available to her locally--Arutz Sheva--"Channel Seven" in Hebrew.

The vast majority of the world's newspapers are not "Christian" newspapers. Should we therefore automatically doubt what is written there? If their journalism is sound, I see no reason not to believe them. If you want to read only things quoted from "Christian newspapers" and therefore stay in your own safe little world, never to be challenged by another point of view, then stick to strictly Christian websites, instead of lambasting those of us with other points of view.

And 4 hours ago, Secretary of State John F. Kerry announced that the United States would contribute an additional $212 million to Palestinians, including Gazans.

That is $212 of OUR taxpayer money going to fund further terrorist activities against Israel and quite possibly the U.S. If anyone was not yet convinced that the brains of Odungo and his cabinet of mentally diseased misfits were comprised of steaming dog s____, here's your latest evidence. It's like the Gazans had never been caught red-handed, in photos, of building tunnels for murderous terrorist activities against Israeli soldiers AND civilians. You can show them hard fast evidence, and then they will just go and do what their agenda dictates that they do anyway, without even looking up. They are patent imbeciles in suits. Soooo scary that THIS s-brained squad is leading our country.

Now you’re posing as a devout Christian? Save the sanctimony for your shaving mirror. Fyi, I don’t care for the whole subject of religion on freep. Deny Jesus. Don’t deny Jesus. Whatever. It’s none of your or anyone else on freep’s business what I do or don’t believe about Jesus. I did not invite discussion of it, and in fact studiously avoid it as a matter of policy.

Get yourself a life, humble. Make that life a shining example of what believing in Jesus is, if you want. It’s not my lookout. Right now all I see is a fat drunken lout trying to poison the waters on my favorite forum, as he always does, only this time he decided to claim that he’s doing it in the name of Jesus. Shame on you.
