Currently the U.S. does not have a permanent surgeon general. President Barack Obama nominated Dr. Vivek Murthy to fill the spot last November after the previous surgeon general vacated the position.
Murthy's nomination has been tied up in the Senate since March amid concerns from conservative, gun rights group, the National Rifle Association, that the Harvard and Yale educated doctor would seek to implement restrictions on the Second Amendment if he were confirmed for the position.

Now, liberals in the media are arguing that Murthy, not [CDC Director] Frieden, should be out calming Americans and cautioning them on how they can avoid contracting the disease.

The position of Surgeon General is perhaps the most useless, most unnecessary in American government. But it has given us some of the best chuckles (think Jocelyn Elders).
So they want to blame it all on the Republicans for holding up the gun grabber’s confirmation.
Hoplophobe Piers Morgan is editor-at-large in charge of US coverage at the Daily Mail (as of 9/30/2014). Morgan was hoping Murthy would declare private gun ownership a health hazard, and attempt to regulate it from his perch as Surgeon General. Daily Mail stories were also vaguely hoplophobic even before Morgan came on board.
They could consult the Acting Surgeon General - but he is not a political appointment so he might say something the administration doesn’t like.
We don’t need another Obama admin liar added into the mix.
The disgusting and evil admin never calms anyone, they add to the misery instead.

The Surgeon General is in charge of the Commissioned Corps, US Public Health Service, whose 6000 officers should be out running quarantine stations RIGHT NOW.

To me he looks like a typical nerdy guy from India (his parents emigrated from India to Britain to the US).
He graduated magna cum laude in biochem from Harvard.
I worked with a bunch of guys like that in my engineering career.
