Ebola-infected Dallas hospital worker followed all CDC procedures: CDC says "trust us, don't worry"

A just-concluded press conference in Dallas, featuring grim-faced officials, revealed that the anonymous worker at the hospital who came down with Ebola followed all CDC procedures, including the use of an isolation suit. Nonetheless, we were told not to worry. Yeah, right. Are they trying to convince people that we are being lied to? When they as good as admit they don’t know how to prevent infections, then telling us to be confident in their medical response accomplishes just the opposite: it spreads panic. Meanwhile, we are lectured to trust them and to keep allowing people form the plague region into the United States because their oh-so-effective measures will catch people who have a 21 day incubation period. This is just amazing. Why would anyone believe people who in effect say, “We don’t know how to prevent transmission of the disease, but trust us, and don’t worry.”

So what happened?

Did she make a mistake or is the full protective suit not effective?

If that’s the approved gear it sucks. No covering for the head, a simple mask not an N 95 or a respirator.

Problem is properly putting gear on and taking off

Especially taking off - have to carefully disrobe and not
touch anything

In my FD had class showing us how to dress/undress in hazmat suits

In FD when disrobing stand in plastic wading pool and have
2 men with brushes and a line wash off suit before start taking off

Are you saying that is the protective gear the nurse that caught it was wearing? It was not a full protective suit with on board oxygen?

The NIH couldn’t keep a competent inventory of a smallpox ampoule in their refrigerators. Does anyone really expect the CDC to do any better job of containing Ebola?

During the little bit of the press conference I caught, the dr. said they would have to review the dialysis procedures, since that appears to be a point at which transmission can occur. I’m paraphrasing, but my take was they figured out that at some point during the dialysis treatment there is a hazard to the person or persons who is/are administering it.

As Dr. Mobley warned on Hannity’s show, what is going to happen when multitudes go to the doctor this winter with the same initial symptoms of the flu? How will that be handled? Some may indeed have Ebola, which will cause the disease to spread to people while they are waiting in the hospital. Will warnings against panic stop the disease? If people who are carefully following safety protocols, fully suited up, catch the disease, what protects the general public. Obama’s assurances?”

I wear better protecting gear when I weld two pieces of steel together.

Any health care “professional” that treats ebola,Marburg etc. dress like that shows how redefining the word professional doesn’t make it so..

We have Democratized the language to the point words mean whatever they mean for the moment. Which means nothing.

I wonder if the family and others who has consistant contact with Ducan did get the virus but for some reason they are asymptomatic. Infact their body is imnune now. Unlike the nurse who was probably exposed once and so the virus is setting home in her body.

Thanks for the link. Interesting. Reverse 911 calls to four block area around the house to warn people.

The nurses car has been taken by authorities. What were the workers that took the car wearing as the picked up the car? And if a warning went out for a four block area, what is this police officer doing in front of the house in normal clothes?

I believe nothing of what this government is telling us. Obama is in full cover his ass mode.

I am inclined to believe that protocol was breached. We do not know (at least I have not read) who this infected person is or how that person came into contact with Duncan.

The disease has spread so rampantly in Africa because they live in third world nation conditions—no clean water, no proper sewers, not enough sterile gloves/masks/gowns, and people who do not practice the protocols that medical workers here practice. This is not a racist or bigoted statement; it is a fact.

I still believe that this disease is not airborne. If it were, we would be seeing more infections. Some people have better immune systems than others. I have been exposed to Chicken Pox more times that I can count and, thank God, I have never contracted it.

Folks, stock up on medical supplies such as gloves, masks, and hazard suits along with extra Clorox. I carry my hand sanitizer with me everywhere and use paper towels in public restrooms when touching door knobs.

I fear that this is the beginning of something bad. I hope I’m wrong.

The flu patients will overwhelm the system so both the flu patients (99.9%) and ebola patients (0.1%) will be sent home with a xeroxed handout which they may or may not read. If the ebola patient's blood test comes back positive (there are false negatives, another thing to worry about) the moonsuit people will show up and take him or her away and send some contractors to disinfect the house. They will trace contacts from before the patient went to the hospital with the fever, but that can be difficult.

Meanwhile anybody in the hospital should watch out for improperly sanitized health care workers. That includes any symptomatic patients without Ebola confirmation who are being quarantined out of precaution. If those quarantine centers get big there will be improper sanitation between patient contacts by health care workers.

no clean water, no proper sewers,

Cholera (a bacteria) breeds in sewage. Ebola virus only breeds in certain cells within a few types of animals. A big problem in Africa is that virus laden patients are traveling in taxis and taxis are even being used to transport bodies.
