Poll shows Childers gaining on Cochran in Senate race in Mississippi

A new poll shows Democratic challenger Travis Childers gaining on Sen. Thad Cochran less than a month before the Nov. 4 general election.

The New York Times/CBS/YouGov poll taken Sept. 20 through Oct. 1 shows Cochran leading 41 percent to 30 percent. A similar poll taken Aug. 18 through Sept. 2 had Cochran with a 40 percent to 25 percent advantage.

According to the New York Times The Upshot:

The YouGov online surveys are being used to supplement, not replace, the Times’s traditional telephone polls. The Times/CBS News poll uses a different methodology for its political and social surveys; they are conducted using random digit dialing probability sampling. The YouGov data is used for The Upshot election forecasting model in key congressional races and Senate battleground states.

In each state and district, respondents were selected to match the demographics of registered voters. In 66 competitive House districts and the 15 smallest states with Senate elections this year, YouGov interviewed a disproportionate numbers of voters to increase the sample size for these races.

Public polling has shown Cochran stuck below 50 percent since the nasty Republican primary against Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel, which is still being contested in the Mississippi Supreme Court, Childers spokeswoman Lindsey White wrote in a release about the poll results

a Mississippi Supreme Court ruling in a 1959 election dispute set a timeline for trying to overturn a primary loss,
and that McDaniel waited too long to challenge results of the June 24 Republican primary runoff.

... McDaniel is asking justices to reverse McGehee’s decision and order the judge to hold a full trial on the lawsuit.

The writer of that article really chopped that information up into a way that makes it hard to understand exactly what happened and whats going to happen.

The "GOOD 'OLE BOY NETWORK" is working extremely hard to see
that this doesn't get done until the very last minute,
and working very hard to set it up so that
if McDaniel DOES WIN,
that the "LOW INFORMATION VOTERS" will perceive it to be a "STOLEN ELECTION" by the courts.

I am SOOOOOOO DISGUSTED with Mississippi's "GOOD 'OLE BOY NETWORK".

God curse them all !



The "ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICANS" will NOT get the message unless THAD COCKROACH LOSES!

It is VITAL that Thad is removed, or the RINOs will do it again, and they may do it again, anyway.

I'll take out (vote AGAINST) an "ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICAN" every time I get an opportunity to, and that INCLUDES the GENERAL ELECTION.

This is the one race where I not only would not vote for the GOPer, but would pull the lever for the Dem (it would be my first time ever in a national race). In a GOP state like MS, the only way to rid of Cochran is to double up the vote against. One less vote for the GOP and one more for the Dem. We’ll be stuck with Cochran if people just stay home or vote third party/write in.

If I was in Kansas, KY or anywhere else, it’s worth going with the lesser of evils, but the BS that took place in MS has to be dealt with.

Mississippi Supreme Court hears Republican Senate primary election dispute, October 3, 2014

They gave no indication of when or how they might rule.

Cochran and McDaniel were not in court Thursday.

If justices side with McDaniel, the lawsuit could go to trial
and he could try to prove his claim
that the runoff was tainted by irregularities such as people voting in the June 3 Democratic primary
and then crossing over to vote in the June 24 Republican runoff.
Mississippi does not register voters by party,
but it bans people from voting in one party’s primary and the other party’s runoff in the same election cycle. ...

... McDaniel attorney Mitch Tyner said Thursday
that state law was substantially rewritten in 1986
and doesn’t specify a timeline for challenging results of a multi-county primary.

“It is clear. There is no deadline,” Tyner said.

Justice Ann Lamar asked Tyner
if a candidate could challenge results of a primary 90 days, six months or a year later.

“He can’t just wait around 60 days, 90 days. That would be crazy,” Tyner said.
“His number one goal is to get his name on the ballot.”

Justice Jim Kitchens asked Tyner
if the general election would be the cutoff date for challenging results of a primary.

“I don’t know what the cutoff would be,” Tyner said.
