>> If I go to west Africa... bla bla bla... I’ll be willing to forfeit my 4th amendment.

Friend, *YOUR* fourth amendment rights — and ONLY yours — are yours to forfeit, as you see fit.

Your family’s constitutional rights, your friends’ rights, your neighbors’ rights — not so much.

(And — fair warning — MY fourth amendment rights are not yours to forfeit, AT ALL. No matter HOW stupidly you choose to behave.)

Why, yes. I would be happy to.

In reality I don't think they have to destroy anything. I agree with you fully in principle. That's their stuff. No warrant, no crime, no seizure.

If that stuff can be segregated, cleaned (meaning any actual human ejecta/fluids/ect... removed), and then heat treated for a minimum amount of time for the virus to be killed (IIRC, the virus can only survive about 5 days without a new host - and 140-degree temps are not high enough to destroy many things, but will sterilize things over a relatively short time), then much of what was seized can be returned clean and virus free.

There is a considerable amount of over and under-reaction going on with this case.

This is wholly an overreaction to cover up prior under-reactions.

If the contaminated premises were quarantined for a month or so wouldn’t the virus die? That seems much simpler.

As long as there was no new host/host material available, I think the virus dies out in just under a week. I think it was 5 days. Cooler areas may see longer times, as these things just go dormant in cold. But, yes, aside from cleaning up vomit/other fluids/waste, the virus would certainly die off in a week.

Okay, found more information. Without host/host material, the virus dies within hours outside the human body. It has been confirmed that it can survive in human waste/dead bodies several days (several is undefined on the CDC page).

I agree.

It’s a similar overreaction to taping that silly plastic wrap all over their car. “Biosecurity Theatre”.

Quite honestly, unless he upped the chuck in the car, anything there is dead by now anyway. Especially if the car's been sitting in the sun, as temps can easily reach 130s inside, and the exterior surface should have seen anything die off in hours.

Ebola or my stuff. My stuff or Ebola. Hmmm. Let me think on that. Not a hard decision. Burn it! Burn it ALL! The kids’ baby pictures? Grandma’s silver tea set? Dad’s tool set? BURN IT! I don’t need stuff when I have LIVE kids.

The NBC reporter thinks he caught it from cleaning up chuck from a car. He didn’t say how fresh it was. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near the car next week, next month or next year.

Personally, I think that’s a hysterical over-reaction. But if it’s YOUR stuff, and if you feel the need, then you are certainly entitled to burn YOUR stuff.

YOUR stuff, that is. I can’t emphasize that enough. YOUR stuff.

Neither you nor your government have the right to force entry into my house and burn MY stuff, not his nor her nor their stuff, without due process of law. And by due process of law, I don’t mean “general CDC policy” or “it’s for the children” or “we’re really scared of ebola so burn his stuff”.

You can join with your the incompetent morons in your corrupt government and burn YOUR stuff to your heart’s content. However, IF you irrationally burn your stuff because you’re paranoid, when the stupid virus dies after a few weeks on its own — don’t you dare expect me to cough up tax dollars to replace it.

Deal?

If you like your Ebola stuff, you can keep your Ebola stuff a long, long way away from me.

To all those who say their rights were violated, we know at least 1 ( the so called “wife” I believe ) is a visa overstay, meaning “illegal alien” if as I suspect more of them are here illegally those that are have no constitutional protections from illegal search and seizure.

Wait until they get the bill that their insurance, if they had any, won’t pay. If they aren’t charged, it will be considered a gift by the IRS and taxed at the max gift rate of 48%.

I doubt any of them are here legally, and I doubt they have insurance or bother with tax returns. Their welfare and food stamps shouldn't be affected by any of this.

The Ebola patient handled these things. Ebola can live on objects and picked up by others.

Studies show the ebola virus can live up to 6 days under the right circumstances on objects that patients have left body fluids etc on.

Really? All 140 barrels full of things? I don’t think so.

>> Ebola can live on objects and picked up by others.

Ebola cannot survive for long at all outside of a host. Things don’t need to be destroyed — merely quarantined for a period of time.
