US Airlines scramble after 100s of passengers had contact with Ebola patient

Hundreds of airline passengers were exposed to the Liberian national before he landed in Dallas, last month, as it is revealed that he took at least three flights to get from Monrovia, Liberia to Texas.

Officials announced that Thomas Eric Duncan flew through Brussels to get to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport - but no airlines operate a direct flight from the European capital to Dallas, meaning he had to take a connecting flight in between.

U.S. officials have refused to release details of his itinerary, including which city he connected through - claiming that none of his fellow passengers are at risk.

Several leading U.S. airlines said on Wednesday they were in close contact with federal health officials about Ebola-related travel.

Airlines for America, the industry trade group, on Wednesday U.S. airlines are in regular contact with the Centers for Disease Control and other government agencies about helping to prevent the spread of Ebola.

I don’t think the 75% will apply IN the US.

We are the best in the world, period. Things are MUCH different here than in any African place.

Also, I hear a few African countries made serious efforts to control it and were quite successful, while the others you hear about did not and remained basically stone-aged.

If I had to pick, I’d be more concerned about the “enterovirus”, not because it’s necessarily horribly deadly, but because I will bet it is illegal-related and they are running rampant, and will infect more people with a pretty strong disease. Bed bugs and all are back, thanks to rolling over for illegal non-citizens.

There seems to be only two airlines that fly from Monrovia to Brussels: Royal Air Maroc and Brussels Airlines.

The best in the world is a plus, sure. But with no cure/treatment, it’s meaningless. You will have to burn the country to the ground to get rid of it now.

In fact it will be worse here since we travel freely and far. Over there even the animals stay close to home and it is partially self containing. Add a sparse population.

We are in serious trouble here and in the denial stage.

Does canning food kill the virus? Like if there was an immigrant who didn’t yet know they had ebola and they sneezed on tomatoes they were picking - the fresh tomatoes he sneezed on could kill you but if they were canned they would be safe? If there are illegals sneaking in who may have ebola it’s not a very good time to buy fresh produce or to eat food prepared by somebody else. Or if I’m being paranoid, then when does it reach that point?

Clorox kills the virus? Or at least 20% alcohol? (I think that’s what I read)

The virus has to get in your body through a body opening or a cut? That’s why goggles and a mask are important - to keep the virus from entering the eyes, nose, or mouth?

Reading last night about the prepper ways to try to avoid exposure and how to deal with it if somebody in the family gets it - and then reading today the graphic details of how the disease progresses - I would so badly want to comfort and help my children if this happened to them. I think it would kill me to just do nothing. It makes me think how important it is that my family knows I love them no matter what happens.

I’ve just got a cold but told my husband I’d only kiss him on the cheek because I didn’t want him to get it from me. I can’t imagine what it would be like to watch a family member die from ebola.

If you wear gloves, mask, etc - then do you soak them in clorox before throwing those things away?

Somebody said something about zinc and I forgot to ping myself. Does anybody know anything about zinc - especially if it’s a way to protect or help if exposure may have occurred?

We need to DEMAND that the US close off flights to people from ebola-stricken places unless they’ve been isolated for 21 days and are not infected. We need to DEMAND that the border be closed NOW!

20 - up from 18 - up from 12 - up from “a handful” according to the NPR interview with the CDC guy this morning.

Either the CDC is incompetent, or they’re zoomin’ us trying to keep the lid on crazy times...

And the pin-prick-in-chief at the top of the food chain will throw the CDC under the bus, you bet.

The security of America is everyones job. Our govt failed at it and colluded. Many of us failed at it and tossed principle for the lesser evil that colluded.

Simple math really.

Speaking of, we’re getting into influenza season. If the very early symptoms of Ebola are similar to flu, how many will be infected before they realize they better get to ER fast.
Who paid for the Liberian’ s airfare?

DITTOES. I was planning to visit my brother in s. California next summer, but things might not look so good by then. Geeze. This makes me sick how the country’s gone straight to hell.

If I had been exposed to ebola and knew that I would probably die in Liberia if I didn’t get my ASYMPTOMATIC self back to the US, you bet your ass I would come back.

BACK!!?

The guy isn't a US citizen. Is he rich, or externally funded? Do you have enough money to fund an INSTANT TICKET from Africa to Texas?

"Been exposed"? He carried a dying Ebola patient. No telling how many people he exposed to his "bodily fluids".

I figured you’d want to insult my sex as well as me. Since we’re so horrible and stupid, even us engineers, maybe you don’t “like” us very much, if you know what I mean?

But you don’t know a thing about ME, or at least let it all sweep away based on one reply (as I’ve seen you post many, many times).
