JIMMY CARTER: 'I Could Have Wiped Iran Off The Map'
MSN ^ | 8/29/2014 | Hunter Wlaker

Former President Jimmy Carter marked his 90th birthday Wednesday with a lengthy interview on CNBC Meets where he discussed his one term in office and the one thing he would have handled differently — the Iran Hostage Crisis.

Carter suggested Operation Eagle Claw, a failed 1980 attempt to rescue the hostages taken by Iranian revolutionaries at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, could have been successful if he committed one more helicopter to the mission.

"I think I would have been re-elected easily if I had been able to rescue our hostages from the Iranians," said Carter. "And everybody asks me what would do more, I would say I would send one more helicopter because if I had one more helicopter we could have brought out not only the 52 hostages, but also brought out the rescue team, and when that failed, then I think that was the main factor that brought about my failure to be re-elected. So that's one thing I would change."

Operation Eagle Claw was aborted after three of the helicopters taking part in the mission experienced mechanical problems.

Yes, Jimmy could have bombed Iran into the stone age and it may have saved us the prospect of a nuclear Iran and maybe even a war in Iraq had he done it. However, Jimmy was almost as feckless a POTUS as Obama and like Obama projected weakness and indecision. The Iran hostages were released as soon as Reagan was sworn in as President because the mullahs knew he would not back down or hesitate to use the full might of US military power to get them released.

Damn right, I proudly cast my first vote for Reagan and as a 19 year old kid, I knew how much that said when the Iranians released the hostages on inauguration day.

He couldn’t even get a couple of helicopters to fly.

What a disgrace he is.

What an idiot, if he had one more helicopter, Reagan had them returned with just a few well chosen words, that left Iran with no choice, it was do or die.

I was at Hood that day. One of the most miserable days of my life with the realization that at the top of the Chain of Command sat a moron.

If I recall one of the biggest problems with the ‘Rescue in the Desert’ was instead of assigning AF, ARMY, MARINES, or SEALS to do the ‘job’
it HAD to be a ‘Joint Operation’ as the ‘Warlords’ were worried over who would get the credit.

Believe for starters the helicopters didn’t have the proper air filters to deal with the sand.

Probably one of the reasons that Special Forces all went under a single ‘roof’.

Also, when did Jimmah don his cardigan, turn off the heat and ‘hide’ in the White House?

What a pathetic POS.... I still ‘blame’ ADM Rickover for not alerting us that Carter was NOT what he was claiming.
Then again, I guess ADMS and GENS on Active Duty can’t really get into Politics (HA)....

When did Perot’s ‘team’ go in and rescue his employees?

If he had any decency at all, he’d step away from the spotlight.

Did someone draw him a map on his dry erase board?

Sounds like he's been huffing the dry erase markers.

well, Jimmy, if you could have solved the problem... why the hell didn’t you?

answer: because he was probably ALREADY in the pay of the IslamoNazis (we KNOW he was receiving millions of dollars of their “donations” just after he left the White House)

He's delusional.

Even if he could have rescued the hostages, he's still responsible for the rise of Ayatollah Khomeini and the militant Iranian state.

No rescue will erase that contribution to history.

Maybe he should have wiped them off the map and we might not have all this crapola going down in the Middle East. But that’s Jimmy for ya, no balls and less brain.
