If Planned Parenthood Collapses, So Does the Abortion Industry
Life News ^ | 9/30/14 | Jill Stanek

Had Planned Parenthood gone under in 1986, the abortion industry would hardly have noticed. At the time Planned Parenthood was committing only 6.2% of all U.S. abortions.

That was then.

With a total of 342 abortion clinics at last count (174 surgical/168 medical), Planned Parenthood now owns 46% of the remaining 751 abortion clinics in the U.S.

Planned Parenthood’s biggest abortion surge has been in the field of medical (RU-486) abortions. Planned Parenthood operates 90% of all U.S. medical abortion clinics, according to AbortionDocs.org. Here’s a chart from STOPP.org:

Planned Parenthood medical vs surgical abortions as of end of 2013

By 2011, the latest figures available, Planned Parenthood was responsible for 31.6% of the U.S. abortion marketshare, surely higher today.

Were Planned Parenthood to go under now, the abortion industry would collapse.

Planned Parenthood abortion monopoly US

I wrote last week about Planned Parenthood’s growing monopoly of that shrinking industry.

This has been intentional, a dual strategy by Planned Parenthood to increase the number of its abortion clinics while crushing the competition.

Planned Parenthood has been conducting its coup for years, if not decades. Quoting the Wall Street Journal from 2008:

“This is not the Planned Parenthood we all grew up with… they now have more of a business approach, much more aggressive,” said Amy Hagstrom Miller, who runs abortion clinics in Texas and Maryland.

Ms. Hagstrom Miller competes with Planned Parenthood for abortion patients – and finds it deeply frustrating. She does not receive the government grants or tax-deductible donations that bolster Planned Parenthood, and says she can’t match the nonprofit’s budget for advertising or clinic upgrades. She has carved her own niche by touting her care as more holistic – and by charging $425 for a first-trimester surgery at her Austin clinic, compared with $475 at the local Planned Parenthood….

“They’re not unlike other big national chains,” Ms. Hagstrom Miller said. “They put local independent businesses in a tough situation.”

There is plenty of evidence Planned Parenthood is indeed trying to drive out the competition. Two recent examples:

But there is a provocative flip side to this that plays right into pro-life hands: As Planned Parenthood grabs more of the declining abortion industry, and the industry becomes ever more dependent on Planned Parenthood for survival, the prospects of that industry’s collapse only increase.

PP

Were Planned Parenthood to go under, the number of U.S. abortion clinics would be cut by almost half, and replacing them would be difficult due to today’s stricter clinic regulations and oversight, in conjunction with the decreased demand.

Also gone would be Planned Parenthood’s influence on elections and litigation.

“Remember that, in addition to becoming the primary abortionists, Planned Parenthood is who provides the lawyers and the political connections to keep abortion legal,” reminded American Life League’s Jim Sedlak in an email. “If Planned Parenthood collapses, all the behind-the-scenes infrastructure goes with it.”

Interesting theory, but is it realistic to imagine that Planned Parenthood could crash?

Stay tuned for Part II.

LifeNews.com Note: Jill Stanek fought to stop “live birth abortions” after witnessing one as an RN at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. That led to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act legislation, signed by President Bush, that would ensure that proper medical care be given to unborn children who survive botched abortion attempts.

And this is why Obama and the left are doing everything possible to funnel money to Big Murder.

It’s huge and getting bigger. It’s coming from so many different sources and going to Big Murder at both the national and local levels, it would be hard to pin down just how much it is.

This thread gives some links and insights into new ways that Obamacare is funding them:

the abortion industry would collapse

I fail to see a downside to this.

Want to participate in mass murder but are too cowardly to do anything about it? Well then Planned Parenthood is for you. No worries abut culpability. Our victims are lined up like sitting ducks and, better still, the government will let you walk away scot free, so that you can come back and murder again and again. All you want. Just check whatever conscience you may have had, and come right in.

I take the author is not good at balancing her checkbook. Remove 31.6% from 100 and that leaves 68.4%. How does the removal of 1/3 result in the death of the remaining 2/3 occur?

If you read further, you will see that they are the only group that really applies a business model to the slaughter of innocent babies. They are the ones who are making real blood money. But, most importantly, they are funding all of the legal battles and lobbying efforts.

Until we convince women that killing babies is a sin not a right we will never end abortion. IMO

Yup.

Look at what PP and Libs did to Susan B. Koman Foundation when they tried to cut off the funding stream to PP.

Al Capone was brought down on tax evasion. The right way to go after PP is probably RICO.

I recall reading some time back that some private clinics were not paying taxes on their cash income. This story was mainly about the clinics in Atlanta, I believe.

Which makes me wonder if PP is paying their fair share?

Great minds think alike-but how can we get a true God-fearing person in charge of the Justice Dept?

Planned Parenthood is by any moral standard the most evil enterprise in the history of the world. Government support for this most nefarious business demonstrates the evil that has captured our national life. We will continue to suffer increasingly terrible consequences for our practice of unrestricted infanticide.

Ashcroft was the closest we’ve gotten to that in the last generation or few, with no significant results.

I think it begins small, with a state AG filing corruption charges. Maybe not against PP even, but one of the other elements of the Progressive Collective that can then snowball.

Thats what a lot of people don’t get: that all the big (and small) Progressive orgs are tightly coupled into the overall whole, like the Borg from Star Trek.

So interestingly enough, the way to take on abortion may be to not take on abortion. But rather take on another piece of the collective, go after it as a criminal enterprise, and collapse the whole structure. Don’t go for the frontal assault, but outflank the bastards.

Thats one of the reasons why I think ACORN was shut down as fast as it was. It represented a chink in the overall armor of the Progressive collective (think the missing scale in Smaug’s chest). If that chink had been penetrated there would have been cascading impacts throughout the collective. So it was “shut down” and the funtions dispersed elsewhere within the collective.
