SHENANDOAH, Texas - A quick-thinking, local police officer protected a string of drivers from a car going the wrong way on the highway.

Shenandoah police Sgt. Gary Sharpen started zig-zagging back and fourth on Interstate 45 northbound when the Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies called saying there was a driver headed the wrong way against traffic Friday night.

I’ve come across that on ahighway before. I assumed they were asleep and honked to wake them once I passed them.

WoW! “...officers and deputies said they found an infant and a toddler in the vehicle, but they were not hurt. They were two more lives saved by an alert, heroic officer.”

What an amazing story with a such a happy ending.

“I’m not a hero. I’m just doing what I had to do. I don’t think of myself as a hero. Any one of these guys would have done the exact same thing,” Sharpen said.

This is the story of so many of our young law enforcement officers around the country — “don’t thank me, I was just doing my job.”

Kinda of like my fellow Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines — It is a $hitty thankless job, but it must be done to protect those that cannot protect themselves.

God Bless Sgt. Gary Sharpen and his actions — He is a great American!

That’s the kind of cop I’m used to seeing. God bless him, and keep him safe as he deploys to the Middle East.

Yeah, me too!

I believe that his actions are more common of our brave men and women in uniform than the negative actions of a few bad apples that bring discredit to law enforcement.

It’s frequently called suicide by car. WHen a gun isn’t available, suicidal people frequently take others with them.
