Ebola and Taking Temperatures with Forehead Thermometers
self | Sept.30,014 | FR_Addict

To check for Ebola in airports, they are taking temperatures using forehead thermometers. It seems to me all someone would have to do is use a paper towel and put cool water on the forehead just before the temperature is taken.

They will have to block airline travel from the region

The stupidity is stupefying. They won’t take that necessary step until it’s too late

Oh yeah everyone with a temp is getting turned away. And after the bribe able sorry TSA agent has been exposed

It’s so embarrassing stupidity

An external thermometer is always going to read low. Rectal is best measurement, oral measurement is good.

I haven't seen anyone taking anyone's temp at airports.

I came back from 3 weeks in Africa just a few weeks ago, came in through JFK. No one asked me anything... just breezed on through.

The NSA will be asking Jim for your IP address shortly.

The DHS and HHS will bring the rectal thermometer to your front door in about an hour...(or maybe that’s your back door?)

ROFLMAO.

Congratulations for one of the most absurd posts I’ve seen on FR in a good long time!

Prove your assertions!

You are assuming that people are suicidal, trying to hide their Ebola infection?

If they use the thermometers more than once each then they are spreading any Ebola they find. Foreheads can be sweaty or oily.

Yeah, and we have sent soldiers to bring it back.

Why does the CDC own a patent on Ebola ‘invention?’

I didn’t say you had to touch anyone to get the disease, I said you had to touch someone to take their sublingual temperature. What worker would want to be sticking things in everyone’s mouths - and what people will willingly take something in their mouths that has just been in someone else’s, sanitized or not?

Why are you spamming us with that stupid question, do you own that site?

Do you think there is some reason why we would not patent any version of Ebola that we could?

Do you ever respond to direct questions?

“You are assuming that people are suicidal, trying to hide their Ebola infection?”

No, I’m assuming that someone who has a temperature might want to be treated in the USA if there’s any possibility of Ebola. We already had the case of the man from Minneapolis who was hiding his infection trying to get back home. He infected a lot of people in another country before he was stopped.

My other assumption is that using the forehead thermometer to detect Ebola isn’t going to stop Ebola anymore than patting down Granny before she gets on a plane. I think they should be stopping flights to infected countries until this is under control.

Our troops should not be sent over to combat Ebola. That’s not their job. We can help with food, water, and medical supplies, but we don’t need to risk the lives of our soldiers and their families when they come back to the States.

They are using laser thermometers like mechanics use, horribly inaccurate. Saw a Show on Nat Geo about Ebola and they showed travel screening, worse than useless.

the way to do it is with thermal imagers

That's beyond science-fiction creepy. Why not have drones flying invisibly over us, thermal imaging everyone, and take away to quarantine anyone with a "hot" thermal image?

It’s sort of like closing borders. Do you consider ebola a threat or not? If you think it is, what do want to do about it?

This method isn’t about finding a perfect temperature measurement, it is about RELATIVE difference. Ebola temps run to 104F, normal is 96 F. The forehead instrument accuracy may read a little low...but it will quickly spot a relative difference of 8 degrees F. Quick relative difference is what you need for screening hundreds of people quickly.
