A knife-wielding intruder allowed to burst through the White House's front door. Bullets that struck the window of Barack Obama's private residence but went unnoticed for days. A presidential bodyguard so drunk he passed out in hallway of a hotel.

These are just some of the recent incidents that have shaken confidence in the Secret Service, the elite agency assigned to protect Mr Obama, his family and the White House.

On Tuesday, Julia Pierson, the Secret Service's director, will face a grilling from members of Congress and a battle to convince them that her agents are up to the task of protecting the world's most powerful man.

YEARS ago I had a conversation with a WWII Ukrainian guerrilla who was anti-Communist. He said that he lost faith with the Reds when they assassinated a German who was in charge of his area. WTF???

He said that the German was a pretty decent guy and treated his village fairly and therefore, the locals weren't too hot to fight the Germans.

The cell he was in said that that couldn't go on and had the guy killed, in the hope a bastard would replace him. That's what happened and the villagers turned against the Germans, so everything went according to plan. That's when he realized the Reds weren't for the people, only for power.

I recall that conversation when thinking of Democratic tactics, fearing that at some point, the Left will figure obama is excess baggage and better off as a martyr. Look how many times the sympathy vote has worked before, Carnahan in Missouri being one example. Plus, they'd have a Threefer, a martyr, a slam against the Right, and another reason to ban guns. The Secret Service has ONE job - protection. They serve to protect our President, his family and his home - our home - the people’s home... That’s it. If they can’t do the job they should be fired.
