WASHINGTON In an election year shaped by voter anger toward the political establishment, the outcome of an unusually large number of close Senate and governors races could be determined by the outsize role of third-party candidates.
The potential spoilers include a quixotic former three-term senator, a pizza delivery man and an Alaskan whose name, Fish, summons a favored native food. They represent independents, Libertarians and other parties that have suddenly become relevant and could affect the balance of power in Congress and decide who runs the governors offices in several states.
If people dont like their choices with the Republican candidate or the Democratic candidate, then youre going to see a spurt in third-party candidates, so they can definitely affect outcomes, said Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas.
To mitigate the impact of Libertarian candidates in North Carolina and other states, Republicans are enlisting Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky to appeal to Libertarian-leaning voters. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce last week recorded commercials featuring Mr. Paul, which will air in closely contested states.

Gonna stop confessin there?
Say whatever you like about McCain and Romney but both:
1) Opposed Obamacare
2) Opposed Dodd-Frank
3) Opposed the Porkulus
4) Opposed Cap and Trade
RR was my all time favorite POTUS of my lifetime. Jesse Helms was my all time favorite US Senator. John Ashbrook was my all time favorite congressman. But there will never be another RR, Jesse Helms, or John Ashbrook. We have to work with what we have.
I live in CA and I have been stuck with Boxer and Feinstein for over 20 years. I would gladly take Mitch McConnell and Thad Cochran over those two any day of the week.
Both are vastly preferable to their Dem opponents.
Grow up!
But ask yourself why will there never be another Reagan? I will stipulate that McCain or Romney would be less damaging than Obama, but they would still be damaging. By electing their likes maybe the country bottoms out in 50 years instead of 30 but we would still have only two choices, bad or worse. I want the Republicans to figure out that they either need to be good, or be gone and that will never happen as long as the McConnels of the world keep getting re-elected by being “better than the rat”.
So.....what do you suggest we do this November?
Sit at home?
Vote third party?
Vote Dem?
I’ve told you what I do.
I vote conservative in the primary. I vote GOP in the general. Always have. No regrets.
I am now asking you what YOU would do?
The alternatives are:
1) Vote Dem.
2) Vote Third Party
3) Not vote
Or...is there something ELSE we can do? What is your suggestion? What other alternatives are there available between now and November?
Un-serious people vote for un-serious candidates. Not much to be done about it.
NYT: Ooooh look at the shiny objects, and puppies!
...and Republicans vote to fund Obamacare (including abortions), increase social welfare spending, increase Food Stamps, Obamaphones, fund the NSA, confirm Chief Justice Roberts, pass No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, Common Core, increase the debt limit, sell our sovereignty, destroy our Constitution, etc....
The only difference between you and I is that I no longer support the bastards who are destroying our country and you still do.
1) Voting Democrat
2) Voting Third Party
3) Not voting.
Republicans nominating progressive socialists in primaries.
I would suggest you consider whether a candidate, in the long run, helps or hurts the goal of shrinking the size and scope of government. If I lived in Mississippi or Kentucky that would certainly involve voting 3rd party or staying at home. If I lived in Kansas I believe Roberts squeaking by serves my long term interests best. As I live in Texas I happily vote for Cruz but will never again pull the lever for Cornyn.
I will vote for a Conservative who puts principal in front of political expedience. One who truly believes and credibly articulates the principals of small government, free markets, person liberty, American exceptionalism and the supremacy of Judeo/Christian Western culture over thug culture/Islam/tribalism/Third world culture. If someone like that comes from the Republican party and has a good chance of being elected, that is wonderful. I will be happy to support them. If the only person who fits the bill is from a third party, oh well. I am still going to make my opinion known via the ballot box.
Dont think there is a well established left wing party that can pull votes away from Dems.

Well, in 2000, Green Party candidate, Ralph Nader got 98,000 votes in Florida. Most of those votes would have gone to Al Gore had Nader not been of the ballot. Ralph Nader put George W. in the White House.
I would gladly take Mitch McConnell and Thad Cochran over those two any day of the week.
Both are vastly preferable to their Dem opponents.
Growup!

You know what Yosemitest, It’s amazing how many people on here will still lick the GOP Establishment boots that just kicked them in them ass. Thad Cochran and Haley Barbour robbed a decent young Conservative of a Senate seat and disenfranchised the votes of tens of thousands of “true” Conservatives by paying Black Democrats to cross over and vote in a GOP Primary run-off. What pu**ies they are; huh Yosemitest?
So, when one of these pu**ies tell you to “Grow up”, tell him to GROW A PAIR. They’re the types of guys that if they came home and caught their wife in bed with another man would, as they were closing the door, say: “Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll go out for a cup of coffee and give you two your privacy. And, honey, after you’re through screwing him, and I come back, please let me in the house.”
If the GOP were smart it would run an urban black-power candidate, a Green, and a union hack in every election.
