An elderly husband and wife have announced their plans to die in the world's first 'couple' euthanasia - despite neither of them being terminally ill. Instead the pair fear loneliness if the other one dies first from natural causes.

I guess they want to be friends with Judas Iscariot. He left early too.

No, their lives were in God’s hands from the moment of their conception to the moment of their natural deaths.

Euthanasia is not in God’s plan.

It’s a rhetorical question. It’s not directed to you.

Then the children need to read and ponder this passage in the Bible.

Sirach 3

1 Listen to me your father, O children; and act accordingly, that you may be kept in safety.

2 For the Lord honored the father above the children, and he confirmed the right of the mother over her sons.

3 Whoever honors his father atones for sins,

4 and whoever glorifies his mother is like one who lays up treasure.

5 Whoever honors his father will be gladdened by his own children, and when he prays he will be heard.

6 Whoever glorifies his father will have long life, and whoever obeys the Lord will refresh his mother;

7 he will serve his parents as his masters.

8 Honor your father by word and deed, that a blessing from him may come upon you.

9 For a father's blessing strengthens the houses of the children, but a mother's curse uproots their foundations.

10 Do not glorify yourself by dishonoring your father, for your father's dishonor is no glory to you.

11 For a man's glory comes from honoring his father, and it is a disgrace for children not to respect their mother.

12 O son, help your father in his old age, and do not grieve him as long as he lives;

13 even if he is lacking in understanding, show forbearance; in all your strength do not despise him.

14 For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, and against your sins it will be credited to you;

15 in the day of your affliction it will be remembered in your favor; as frost in fair weather, your sins will melt away.

16 Whoever forsakes his father is like a blasphemer, and whoever angers his mother is cursed by the Lord.

17 My son, perform your tasks in meekness; then you will be loved by those whom God accepts.

18 The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself; so you will find favor in the sight of the Lord.

20 For great is the might of the Lord; he is glorified by the humble.

21 Seek not what is too difficult for you, nor investigate what is beyond your power.

22 Reflect upon what has been assigned to you, for you do not need what is hidden.

23 Do not meddle in what is beyond your tasks, for matters too great for human understanding have been shown you.

24 For their hasty judgment has led many astray, and wrong opinion has caused their thoughts to slip.

26 A stubborn mind will be afflicted at the end, and whoever loves danger will perish by it.

27 A stubborn mind will be burdened by troubles, and the sinner will heap sin upon sin.

28 The affliction of the proud has no healing, for a plant of wickedness has taken root in him.

29 The mind of the intelligent man will ponder a parable, and an attentive ear is the wise man's desire.

30 Water extinguishes a blazing fire: so almsgiving atones for sin.

31 Whoever requites favors gives thought to the future; at the moment of his falling he will find support.

“they have the support of their three adult children who say they would be unable to care for either parent if they became widowed.”.........

maybe they want to kill themselves because they realize they raised heartless and soul-less children............

That’s at the heart of this , no doubt. I don’t call children who agree that their parents killing themselves is “support”.....they’re an accessory to murder for not trying to stop it.

They died for their god-state. No burden now.

Not according to the article....

They want to kill themselves out of fear of being alone...

Not that I agree with them, but it's understandable...

“maybe they want to kill themselves because they realize they raised heartless and soul-less children and feel that it’s their fault.”

You got it!

Also, nowhere do I read that the surviving parent would be welcome in one of their children’s homes.

That could happen to anyone of them tomorrow. They should just all kill themselves now so they won’t have to worry about that possibility.

...”They want to kill themselves out of fear of being alone...”

There are many people who “fear” loneliness....so that ‘fear’ is not sufficient to warrant taking ones life.

If “fear” is what is driving their decision then it's definitely not of God....but the other playing with their minds and hearts. So what if the kids are heartless and not willing to take them in...that's becoming the standard anymore.... We all need to determine ahead of time how we will sustain ourselves when we reach the point we may not be able to do so without assistance.

I;m not for this manner of taking ones life because of not wanting to be alone...it is often in times we ARE alone that God either reaches us or enhances our relationship with Him..He becomes are caretaker and provider...with hands that are willing to help..and it may very well not be family at all.

Their children would be wise to remember this.....“Now if anyone does not provide for his own relatives, and especially for his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1 Timothy 5:8).

God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment” (2 Timothy 1:7).

God says....I will be the same until [your] old age, and I will bear [you] up when you turn gray. I have made [you], and I will carry [you]; I will bear and save [you]” (Isaiah 46:3-4).

“If any believing woman has widows, she should help them, and the church should not be burdened, so that it can help those who are genuinely widows” (1 Timothy 5:16).

The couple's daughter has remarked that her parents are talking about their deaths as eagerly as if they were planning a holiday. John Paul said the double euthanasia of his parents was the 'best solution'. 'If one of them should die, who would remain would be so sad and totally dependent on us,' he said. 'It would be impossible for us to come here every day, take care of our father or our mother.'

What a waste of time and energy changing little John Paul's and his two sisters' dirty diapers, wiping their snotty noses and sacrificing for them to have the best in life. Since mom and dad are such a burden, why wait? They're both past the useful human 75 year cut off date. Bump them off now before more of the inheritance is squandered on food, rent and the old folks' healthcare.

“Sounds like they and their children haven’t even done basic research about retirement homes before finding a way to commit suicide. Chilling. “

You’re right. We found a good retirement home for my mother when her doctor said she couldn’t live alone any more. We children, all of whom live in different states, paid the difference between my mother’s social security and the cost of the very good retirement home. We had the peace of knowing that she did not have to go to a nursing home.

Don't disagree at all...

I have contemplated life without my wonderful beautiful wife of 35 years...definitely something I would dread, but nothing to fear about it...

...or to kill myself over...

I’ve been “alone’ for 20 years now....and I could have chosen otherwise many times...friends and relations could not understand why I hadn’t been “snatched up” yet as each year passed.....obvious it isn’t about that for me..and others.

There is something quite significant about being alone that you can not know until you are there for a period of time. You learn “how” to be alone...which is really another venture in life if you let it be so....you can remain open to the possibility of marrying again...some choose to...others find they are happy to remain on their own. It is a choice each and every time you may have the option otherwise....and that includes when one looses their mate or threat of.

So don’t even dread the time should it come...you might go first in fact!......once you mourn the loss God has another plan and HE is never finished with us finding that.

I think of a woman back in my home church who at 67 yrs. lost her husband.....after a year or so she joined up with Wycliff Bible Translators as a missionary. Her testimony, while i was just a young mother, I have never forgotten..and knew then...no matter what happens in life at what age...there is a way and a purpose further until God says otherwise.

I'm pretty sure I will kick the bucket first, every women on my wife side of the family lives well into their late 90's...

If by God's will, I outlive her, everyday will be a new one open to whatever God has anointed it to be...
