Cruz spoke about his own father, whose life was drastically changed by the power of faith.
Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, was taken captive in Cuba as a teenager. He was wearing a white suit at the time. The Senator said, "My father had been put in a Cuban prison and tortured. Tortured, hour after hour. My grandmother told me, when she saw my father again, [on] that white suit you could not see a spot of white anywhere on it. It was covered with mud and blood, and his teeth were dangling from his mouth. And yet even when he was in that Cuban jail, God with with him...God's hand brought him from captivity to freedom. God's grace brought him to the United States of America."
Later in life, when Cruz was a young boy living in the U.S., both of his parents had "serious problems with alcohol. When I was three my father decided he that didn't want to be married anymore and that he didn't want a son."
Consequently, Cruz's father left him and his mother in Calgary and moved to Houston. "While in Houston, [my father] got invited to Clay Road baptist church," Cruz said. While there, his father "gave his life to Jesus." He then bought an airplane ticket and flew back to Calgary to rejoin his son and wife.
Cruz reflected, "So when anyone asks, 'Is faith real, is a relationship

We are being pressed toward alternatives in which "hope" has no function and no purpose.
Under communism, there is no need for individuals to have hopes. The state takes care of everything for you. Individuals have no need for hope because the state gives you everything you need. All you have to do as an individual is your assigned job; as long as you do that, everything else will work out automatically.
Under Islam (the other alternative), there is no need for hope because earthly life is of no value. Death is actually preferable to life, as we are frequently reminded by Muslim leaders. The only aspiration of our earthly existence is to spread Islam to the farthest corners of Earth, and to murder anyone who resists. This is not so much a hope as it is a duty.

You drove a nail into my head with that comment. Schools become the instruments of the people who own them. That’s what I took from what you said. If government owns the schools, it may be technically owned by the people (public) but it is those in government who exercise ownership rights over the schools, supposedly on our behalf. To assume they are always selfless people only interested in the public good is naïve and dangerous.
I think that makes a case against public anything that can influence the way people think to the exclusion of other ideas. Public schools do that exclusion. I am a strong advocate of home schooling and the more I think about, the more certain I am people would better off not trusting to the “good graces” of self-serving bureaucrats.

The word “Christian” technically refers only to those who in repentance and faith cling to the righteousness of a crucified and risen Christ alone. The US was not built on this, and does not pretend in its Constitution to make this its foundation. It is a wider foundation of natural law and revealed law upon which we practice order and civility.
One has only to read the Mayflower Compact for proof. And the first legislature in America convened in a church...a Christian church.
