Rick Santorum Criticizes Ted Cruz's Comments At Christian Event
Business Insider ^ | September 25th, 2014 | By Brett LoGiurato

Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Thursday criticized comments in US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made earlier this month i n a speech that critics have said was unnecessarily confrontational toward a Middle Eastern Christian group.

"We have a responsibility to stand by people who are being persecuted," Santorum told Business Insider in a wide-ranging interview in New York. "This shouldn't be an ideological test — well, you have to agree with us on all of these things, or else we won't be with you. No, we're going to be with you if you are a religious minority that's being persecuted by a radical Muslim majority. Period."

Cruz earned the ire of many conservatives for his speech to a group called "In Defense of Christians." During those remarks, Cruz made a point to say he would not support groups in the Middle East who are not pro-Israel.

He walked off the stage to a chorus of boos after eventually telling the crowd he wouldn't "stand with" them if they did not "stand with Israel and the Jews." Critics say he was trying to intentionally provoke an audience he knew was not staunchly pro-Israel.

Santorum was serving in leadership when RINOs lost their way and became more interested in preserving power than changing things for the better.

I will not vote for him.

Santorum was absolutely correct, as he often is.

Cruz has his good points, but he completely in the wrong in this matter. Arab Christians are not Muslims, but Cruz figured this was close as he’d get to being in a room with Muslims. He took the opportunity to pander to his base in some misguided attempt and berated Christians for not being real Christians for not supporting Israel. Israel is a democracy and better than the Muslim nations in the Middle East, but it should not be idolized over Christians. How odd that some Protestant posters deride Catholics for idolizing Mary over Christ (which is false), but they have no problem making an idol out of Israel over Christians.

There have been over 50 years of conflict in the Middle East where Christians are often caught in the crossfire. As a “Christian Nation” we should care about them. In some people’s eyes, Arab Christians aren’t real Christians and that is a shame.

Certainly we should support our ally in the middle East (Israel) but it we should also support the Christians.

As usual on this site, Rick Santorum gets zero respect. I don’t understand the Santorum hate and I never will. Here is a man that stands for Christian values and has the support of working class voters (you know those “Reagan Democrats” people keep talking about) and he gets derided for his trivial things like his sweater vest.

I know this comment may get me banned, but I had to say a few words in defense of a decent man.

"just another big spending SoCon"

Is it even possible to be considered Conservative...and support big government?

I can't reconcile that philosophically.

I'm thinking Santorum is more correctly defined as a Socially Conservative Democrat...but abandoned by his party.

Irrelevent Risk - desperate for attention.

The only way he can get in the news now is to attack the leading news-maker in the party.

Sad...

He’s a lawyer-Strike One

He voted against right to work (Siding with the unions to force workers to belong and pay dues against their will)-Strike Two

He endorsed Specter over Toomey. Specter switched parties and was a deciding vote in the Senate for Obamcare- Strike Three

Can’t even win reelection in his own state, but used Romney supporters money to stay in the race, just to neutralize Gingrich (in short, he’s a tool)-Strike four.

I could go on.

That tripe about Santorum endorsing Specter over Toomey has got to end. Have you checked Toomey’s voting record? He’s turned into a RINO loser. Toomey Manchin, anyone? How about the tax increases he voted for?

Specter was no better, but at least he got us Samuel Alito on the supreme Court.

Oh and Gingrich would have been a worse candidate than Romney. Romney sucked, that’s a fact. But women were never going to vote for Gingrich.

“but Cruz was rude, confrontational and hijacked the event, “

He was simply standing up for Israel and these so-called Christians booed him. You have it bass-akwards. Cruz was rudely treated but handled it well.

I thought Sanctimonious supported Israel so I see no reason for these petty swipes except to indicate that he will be running for President again.

He needs to get to a psychiatrist and start taking medication

Megalomania can be treated!

Treatments for megalomania depend upon the underlying condition causing it, but can include medication and psychotherapy.

Four conditions are associated with this state, where individuals believe themselves omnipotent, have a deluded sense of possessing extraordinary power, or exhibit grandiosity, which is a view of personal superiority and disdain for others.

These conditions are narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) antisocial personality disorder (APD), schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Treatment differs in these conditions, and antisocial personality disorder is not presently considered treatable.

Bipolar disorder may have megalomania as a feature when people are in a manic state. Some schizophrenics have delusions of grandiosity, believing they have exceptional power.

In these two conditions, states of megalomania and grandiosity are especially dangerous because individuals may make decisions based on a faulty perception of personal power.

A schizophrenic might stand in front of a car believing it cannot hit him, and the bipolar person could sleep with numerous people without recognizing the consequences to a marriage.

In one sense, these disorders are easier to treat because both will respond to medication. Treatments for megalomania in schizophrenia and bipolar directly address the underlying chemical dysfunctions responsible for the disorders.

Mood stabilizers can help return bipolar sufferers to a normal mood, and schizophrenics may be treated with antipsychotics. Both conditions additionally benefit from ongoing therapeutic support and psychoeducation.

Most Christians living in Arab nations are not Israel supporters. So, we just ought to close our eyes and do nothing about the abuse and at times slaughter?

The speaking engagement Rick refered to was being financed reported here in FR’s by GFOO’s* and a setup with PA muzzies in attendance. In fact some attendees apologized and defended Cruz’s position.*(good friends of Obos)
Santorum should have known this before he opened his yap.

Whether Brett LoGiurato of the Business Insider knew this is another question but that publication hasn’t been exactly “objective” when it come to politics. If LoGiurato knew this he could have set Santorum straight and questioned him. Instead Brett kept his mouth shut and created a division which is usefull to their agenda.

No, we're going to be with you if you are a religious minority that's being persecuted by a radical Muslim majority. Period.

That is an irrational dogmatic absolute. What if the minority is unjust or evil, and don't deserve to have us be with them?

A person can support Israel and Arab Christians at the same time. Never once have I heard Santorum say anything bad about Israel. He’s always been a stalwart supporter of Israel, the only democratic nation in the Middle East. But he’s also a great supporter of Christians, being a true one himself.

"I thought Sanctimonious supported Israel so I see no reason for these petty swipes except to indicate that he will be running for President again."

It's apparent that Santorum is trying to show he's the moderate and reasonable one:)

Of course that mean he has to subtlety paint Cruz with the "extremist" brush.

And YES, Santorum will run again and siphon off 25% of the Conservative vote...needed by whatever main challenger to the RINO emerges.

I suspect that's Cruz.

And Santorum's election committee will stop with a few $mil in it's coffers.

That should get Santorum through until the next POTUS cycle.
