Breaking: Eric Holder resigning as AG
Hotair ^ | 09/25/2014 | Ed Morrissey

The timing on this move is, to say the least, curious. One of the last three members of Barack Obama’s original Cabinet will announce his resignation today, according to multiple sources talking with NPR. Eric Holder will step down as soon as his replacement can be confirmed — and that may be quite a fight:

Eric Holder Jr., the nation’s first black U.S. attorney general, is preparing to announce his resignation Thursday after a tumultuous tenure marked by civil rights advances, national security threats, reforms to the criminal justice system and five and a half years of fights with Republicans in Congress.

Two sources familiar with the decision tell NPR that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year. A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly “adamant” about his desire to leave soon for fear he otherwise could be locked in to stay for much of the rest of President Obama’s second term.

As Noah Rothman mentioned on Twitter, Holder has stuck around longer than most AGs in two-term presidencies, and only Arne Duncan and Tom Vilsack have served the entirety of Obama’s presidency on the Cabinet. Holder has been a lightning rod for controversy and scandal, especially in his fight to keep ATF and DoJ communications regarding Operation Fast and Furious from Congressional oversight. Holder still has an outstanding contempt citation and is still fighting in court to keep those documents under a highly-suspect claim of executive privilege.

Here’s the short list for Holder’s replacement (they’re all attorneys):

1) Malik Shabazz
2) Benjamin Crump
3) Van Jones

Good riddance!!!!

I couldn’t imagine him possibly being replaced by anyone that could be worse.

Holder makes Janet Reno look like John Ashcroft.....

Shouldn’t this affirmative-action loser be arrested and imprisoned pending his trial? The degenerate has committed many, many crimes against the Rule of Law.

Holder is not stepping down. He is stepping aside. For whatever reason, he can’t lead or follow (the law, perhaps) and for him to get out of the way, he must step aside.

Holder resigning as attorney general

Great!! Best news for America in a long time. The "Racist-in-General" quits...just before the mid-term elections. We will probably never know the real reason why. Who cares? The important thing is that this currupt slimebag will be GONE, leaving a stain on America that will take generations to erase.

They know they’ll lose the senate and want to get his replacement through a democrat senate.

I think you are correct and this is their primary reason.

Could be that he was in with Lois Lerner on stuff, and she’s gonna talk?

This does not rise to the level of a game changing October surprise.

It does if Bronco Bama then nominates Holder to SCOTUS.

Will Valerie Jarrett step in?

Or will she remain the unseen puppet master?

reforms to the criminal justice system

Is that how NPR describes abuses of power?

No wonder Americans despise NPR.

I am sure Obama will pick another racist angry Black to fill the post. Maybe Al Sharpton is looking for a new gig.

I think they're still on the Mexican gun thing...

Betting he leaves before they have a replacement.....a move to force Congress to make a decision??

Does Obama then have the right to appoint a temporary AG??

He will be replaced by another black racist criminal thug with Black Muslim/Black Panther/Muslim Brotherhood ties.

Holder will probably free all of the pro ISIS killers at Gitmo and will help ISIS to recruit more killers from the hood.
