A new report from Pew Research predicts that more folks under 35 will be single forever. Here's why
The number of Americans who have always been single and will never marry is at a historic high, says a new Pew Research report, partly because they don’t have jobs and partly because marriage is becoming less highly-regarded.
Most people think it’s important for couples who intend to stay together to be married, but the number of single Americans who want to get married has dropped significantly even in the last four years.
The report, based on census data and Pew’s surveys, is the latest in a series of indicators that marriage’s stock is on a sharp downward trajectory. Fewer young people are getting married and many are getting married later. About 20% of Americans older than 25 had always been single in 2012, up from 9% in 1960. In the black community, the numbers are even starker: 36% of black Americans older than 25 have never been married, a fourfold increase from 50 years ago.

Child #1:
daughter born 1980; age 34; married for five years; but do not want children.
Child #2:
son born 1983; age 31; married for 10 years; has two children.
Child #3:
son born 1987; age 27; not married; not interested in having a family.
I think the big one is feminism — nothing has destroyed femininity [or even the quality of graciousness] quite so well.
Yep, that is a good one. Emasculating boys until they aren’t attractive to women anymore.
With divorce laws the way they are, is anyone surprised? The laws are generally designed to screw people.
Some of these kids saw the destruction caused by divorce and fear that more than they desire to be married.
If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten married earlier, and started having children earlier. I’ve been fortunate to have had a lot of experiences in my life so far, and have seen lots of different parts of the world, but none of that has any meaning when compared to having a child and a family. Nothing. I started relatively late. It’s so ironic that the result of ‘higher education’ is often to get so wrapped up in career and whatever ‘success’ is that you put off or never do what’s really meaningful in life.
People? More specifically, you mean men, right?
More likely , the millenials are enveloped in narcissism, as were their parents.
I, for one, would be most grateful if they stay in the basement and do NOT procreate.
It is unfortunate that the present generation is either making babies and living off the dole or struggling to make enough to support a family or afford one. That is the most insidious effect of the current economic situation, and unfortunately, it is disproportionately affecting the more productive demographics, or at least those which would be in better economic circumstance.
That may be a factor, too. Not only is there the economic destruction in divorce, but the emotional impact as well. If they have suffered that, they may have little faith in stable relationships. Even growing up in a home where the parents remained together is no guarantee when surrounded by a peer group who suffers the effects.
People?! You mean MEN. For men, marriage is like walking into a casino and putting at least 50% of everything you make and own, and everything you will EVER make and own, and betting it all on red/black on the roulette wheel. Actually, the odds probably aren't even as good as 50/50. Have a couple of kids before things go south, and the odds are even worse.
I do indeed sir. There are, of course, always some exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking, yes, that is what I meant. I had to laugh when I heard people say, instead of getting married, just find a woman you hate, and buy her a house, but sometimes, it is almost close to the truth.
If this is true, the America those of us over 50 grew up in is dead and gone.
This country will become third world in 1 or 2 generations.

Many of their potential spouses were aborted.
Not 100% that, though it is certainly a big part of it.
A lot of it has to do with the fact that many of their parents divorced and, when they divorced, the parents inflicted as much pain as possible on their ex.
I feel the same way, and I hope some of the young people reading your post will be influenced by it.
