Incest a 'fundamental right', German committee says

Laws banning incest between brothers and sisters in Germany could be scraped after a government ethics committee said the they were an unacceptable intrusion into the right to sexual self-determination.

“Criminal law is not the appropriate means to preserve a social taboo,” the German Ethics Council said in a statement. “The fundamental right of adult siblings to sexual self-determination is to be weighed more heavily than the abstract idea of protection of the family.”

Their intervention follows a notorious case in which a brother and sister living as partners in Saxony had four children together. The couple had been raised separately and only met when the brother, identified only as Patrick S, was an adult, and his sister Susan K was 16.

Patrick S was sentenced to more than three years in prison for incest and the couple have since failed in their bid to have the guilty verdict overturned by the European Court of Human Rights.

I guess that affairs between Father/Daughter and Mother/Son will be socially acceptable in the future.

Yep. If SCOTUS requires states to allow homo “marriage” then they will soon have to explain why two brothers can’t marry each other, etc.
Buckle up for the fundamental transformation.

Here’s the problem: ***The couple had been raised separately and only met when the brother, identified only as Patrick S, was an adult, and his sister Susan K was 16.** *

Not clear why they were raised ‘separately’. But it does illustrate once again why raising children in a 2-parent, heterosexual family with Christian values is the only way for our civilization to survive and prosper. Stop the multi divorces where the children are shipped and shortchanged because of selfish men & women.

They're called libertarians. And they believe NO laws should regulate a society.

BS. Show me where any libertarian has ever said that.

What libertarians believe is that people have inalienable rights, and the function of government and laws is to protect those rights from the actions of others, and punish those who violate others rights. Statists, whether they call themselves "liberals" or "conservatives", believe government should outlaw anything they decide is "wrong", regardless of whether anyone's rights are being violated.

Thanks for making my point.

Libertarians believe what two consenting adults.....

And if brother and sister (brother and mother, brother and even father, whatever...) are of legal age, there should be NO LAWS against incest.

What you said was no laws regulating society. That’s anarchy, not libertarianism.

In May 1919, at Dusseldorf, Germany, the Allied Forces obtained a copy of the “Communist Rules for Revolution.” Nearly 95 years later, they have nearly succeeded in every area.
1. Corrupt the young: get them away from religion. Get them interested in sex. Make them superficial; destroy their ruggedness.
2. Get control of all means of publicity. Get peoples’ minds off their government by focusing their attention on athletics, sexy books, plays and other trivialities.
3. Divide people into hostile groups by constantly harping on controversial matters of no importance.
4. Destroy the peoples’ faith in their natural leaders by holding the latter up to contempt, ridicule and . (speak against, condemnatory utterances)
5. Always preach ;true democracy; but seize power as fast and as ruthlessly as possible.
6. By encouraging government extravagance, destroy its credit; produce fear of inflation, rising prices and general discontent.
7. Foment strikes in vital industries; encourage civil disorders and foster a lenient and soft attitude on the part of government toward these disorders.
8. By special argument cause a breakdown of the old moral virtues; honesty, sobriety, continence, faith in the pledged word, ruggedness.
9. Cause the registration of all firearms on some pretext with a view of confiscation of them and leaving the population helpless.

There’s a fine line between anarchy and libertarianism.

A very fine line. And sometimes its hard to see and easy to cross.

There’s a broad spectrum of people who support libertarian ideas. You choose to focus on the most extreme end and paint all the rest with a broad brush.

Yes I do. I would ask you to list some less extreme qualities of libertarianism, but you would probably come up with conservative values that libs have tried to hijack and pass of as liberaltarian values.

Most libs here at FR have to hide their crazy and not promote abortion, pornography and (relative to this thread) incest, or they get the zot.

But for some reason, Jim Rob lets them have drugs as their favorite cause. And boy do they promote it!

Libertarians love the drug argument as much as Kerry and Obama love the Global Warming BS.

I personally don’t care which spectrum of people are out there (and here at FR) supporting libertarianism. I despise them all and make no apologies for it.

BTTT. So about incest. Do YOU think there shold be no legal restrictions?

Not every libertarian is the same.
I believe that laws are necessary to protect the liberty of the individual.
A law defining marriage the way it has always been since God created it should be fought for and defended.
The destruction of this institution will collapse a society which is bad for the liberty of individuals across the nation.
Also, a law prohibiting abortion is perfectly consistent with my libertarian philosophy. A pregnant woman’s freedom over her body ends to the extent that her actions deprive the innocent person inside of her life and liberty.
I really like Andrew Napolitano. As lawyers we both view the Constitution and the role of government pretty much the same way.
Just be mindful that not all libertarians are the same, just like not all conservatives are the same.

By the way please note the lower case “l” I put in libertarian.
I vote GOP, often holding my nose.
I do despise the statist and the nanny state along with the standing army our founders sought to prevent.
