President Barack Obama on Wednesday sought to rally the world and especially Muslim countries to join the American fight against ISIS militants — a “network of death” that he said must be destroyed.
Speaking at the United Nations, two days after the United States escalated its campaign against the militants with a barrage of airstrikes in Syria, Obama called on countries to counter the extremism and sectarian conflict that allow terrorism to flourish.
“No God condones this terror,” he told the General Assembly in New York. “No grievance justifies these actions. There can be no reasoning — no negotiation — with this brand of evil.”
“The only language understood by killers like this is the language of force,” he went on. “So the United States of America will work with a broad coalition to dismantle this network of death.”
The Obama administration has said that more than 40 countries have joined a coalition to fight the militants, including five Arab countries that took part in the first round of airstrikes in Syria.

For me, the real highlight was when he called on the UN to vote on his resolution for the authorization of force against ISIS, like his predecessors did against Iraq...
It sounds like he now uses ISIS rather than ISIL.

What Obama is trying to do is to say it as the military does. The construct is an alliteration and it forms a routine way of looking at how to deal with planning for enemies. It’s stated like this: “deny, degrade, disrupt, destroy.” Destruction is the normal end state. It could be destruction of their capability, attrition, or annihilation. In this case, it should be annihilation. In fact, anything less is merely symbolic.
ISIL includes the Levant, the area of Lebanon and Israel. The word “Levant” is archaic. I believe the intent is to show that this group is not just about Iraq or Syria; they’ve bigger plans and do not recognize any of these borders.

My point, exactly. Obama doesn’t want to destroy ISIL.
Killing radicals out in the open desert does not stop the Arab bigshots funding them, nor the muslim women having babies like rabbits for the next generation of jihad, nor the imams in the madras who are teaching the next radicals. Killing off IS is like plucking a leaf off of the dandelion.

Little bammy is motivated by two things, votes for The Party and dragging down the united States.
My money is he cares more about the successes of IS than the November elections, which are probably in the toilet anyway. NBC is now qualifying his use of the term ISIL as "a different acronym."

You’re right on all points. Obama is doing everything he can to minimize the damage to ISIS. He’s between a rock and a hard place.
His true colors continue to bleed through and he won’t be able to keep up the facade forever.
Obama is very good at Taqiyya but not good enough.

54 countries and 3 International Organizations. Of course how they are contributing beyond just allowing their names to be used isn’t mentioned.

Obama's using "ISIL" is either a slap at Israel by condoning the "wider net" of the Levant, or he is trying to show the thugs that we know what they are up to. It can't be both, so I wonder which it is?

I understood you. Obama and friends want to dismantle but in the good sense of the word. ISIS and all others who terrorize need to be destroyed.
