Two maps that terrify congressional Democrats
vox.com ^ | 9/24/14 | Matthew Yglesias

It's hard to keep track of all the comings and goings in all the different congressional races happening this fall. For an overview of what the pollsters and forecasters think is most likely to happen, check out Vox's constantly updated forecast tracker.

But to understand the dynamics shaping the races this fall, all you really need are these two maps — one for the Senate and one for the House both of which show that the contest is being played out on a field that tilts in the GOP's direction.

1) The Senate map is awful for Democrats

One third of the United States Senate is up for election this year, and remarkably only one of those races — Susan Collins' reelection bid in Maine — features a Republican-held seat in a state that voted for Barack Obama. By contrast, there are Democratic-held seats in Montana, South Dakota, Alaska, West Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Louisiana at stake.

If geography were destiny, of course, Democrats wouldn't have been able to win those seats in the first place. And the fact that Collins is cruising to a crushing victory over her Democratic opponents emphasizes that it is possible to win even in a bad state. But from the moment the 2014 campaign kicked off, Democrats have been fighting a battle on unfavorable terrain.

2) The House map is awful for totally different reasons

The Democrats are, quite literally, destroying America to stay in power.

Their only fear is that there may yet be sufficient numbers of Americans who still value their nation and its unique virtues to send them out of office.

It’s not likely, but it may happen.

Yup, that’s some twisted crap.

Democrats have done a pretty good job of subverting the language, referencing their own party's name.

Many's the Conservative who falls into their trap either in print or on air and gets a (useless, I'll admit) verbal lashing from me.

I think the Democrats want to have everyone refer to them as "Democratic" just to avoid the joking reference to them as "'Rats", which of course they are.

From the article:
By contrast, there are Democratic-held seats
over her Democratic opponents
This is a clearly Democratic-leaning state
with the state's Democratic voters
exaggerating Democratic support

Every one of these references should be "Democrat"

Would it be too much to ask that all Democrats and all the media go read what the dictionary has to say about "democratic"?
"of, relating to, or supporting democracy or its principles."

Just like homosexuals are now "gay", and thus steal a word from our English vocabulary (who in their right mind would ever again say, "I'm feeling very gay right now"?), the 'Rats pervert the language just to avoid being made fun of - or they're just ignorant, I don't know which.

The American people may be waking up, slowly. Unfortunately, maybe too slowly.

Absolutely beautiful job of gerrymandering Western PA!

Mike Doyle has been forced to retreat to the Mon Valley and the most Progressive neighborhoods in Pittsburgh.

I’d buy that line of thought - the only caveat is - I think they overplayed their hand a decade too early before EVERYONE was indoctrinated....too many of us are still fighting back

It’s all irrelevant if folks don’t get out and vote and that voting includes voting for other than the perfect candidate you wanted but is definitely is better than the alternative.

Romney sucked but we’d be far better off today with him had people who didn’t get the candidate they wanted voted for Romeny.

The scum we have in the White House and the shxt we’re in is the result.

It cannot wake up. There are too many on the Dole-Nation, and they are cognizant enough to accept a bribe from the Democratic Party to live for free and that others will pay.

It is summed up by a comment from Bill Maher, who said and I paraphrase: that the tea party people are too stupid and would rather live in poverty and protect the rich rather than vote their economic interest by taking money from them in higher taxes. That’s how Dems think, - us against them and we have to take what they got. Their whole party’s existence can be strained down to a group of jealous people who take things that do not really belong to them. When four people in the room vote to take the wealth of the fifth, it is not Democracy, that is the rule of the mob.

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.” Alexis de Tocqueville

What Maher doesn’t understand is that the Tea Party are smarter than he is, and they realize than everyone will be impoverished by the unchecked leftist confiscation of private property - that when the wealthy investors are decimated, the entire nation will be diminished and all will have less. Return to the Soviet Union, obviously Obama would like to, and every class warrior would like to as well - and see what they wrought. Extreme poverty, survival by vodka, use of the police state to crush political dissent, a yes-man press, an environmental catastrophe that destroyed their towns and villages and water supply, Chernobyl, and abortion as the main form of contraception. Oppression, hopelessness, atheism, silence and a shrinking nation - as very few saw a future in raising a family. They are still reeling from it - and I see these nightmare problems coming to America under the rule of Obama-Holder. Our media cannot be trusted and have become little more than toad-eating yes-men for the most secretive Administration in history. The IRS and police apparatus have attacked political opponents of the Administration, committed crimes doing it by destroying evidence and the DOJ under Holder does nothing. There is no one sticking up for America, a once great nation, now descending into agnosticism, environmental paganism, bureaucratic sclerotic enlargement, attack of private citizens by a hideous coordination of leftist press elements and the Justice Department, they are lying with impunity, lying without the adjudication of a free press, lying to hide their own failures, lying to hide their lies, standing over the dead bodies of our fallen heroes and lying to their mothers’ faces, so they can protect themselves politically.

These are bad times.

Obamacare, the Gop forgot about going after the DEMs on the people losing coverage

According to experts this fall lots of people were to be hit with cancellation notices from insurers.

Others were to get notices of rate increases.

The GOP should be walking away with the midterm elections.

it is “simulated majority” propaganda.

It is “democrats” vs everyone else.

If there was ONE democrat running it would be portrayed as a too close to call contest.

THANK YOU!

The bs of calling themselves the "democratic party" just makes me cringe. Or when I see "The Democratic candidate running for Senate."

If there are five of them in a room would one say "that group of democratics over there?"

But if you point this out they "in true liberal fashion" have an absolute fit.
