Law firm targets Pennsylvania State Police for handling of Eric Frein manhunt

A law firm is soliciting residents in Pike and Monroe counties who have been affected by police activity related to the manhunt for Eric Frein, the suspect in the Sept. 12 Pennsylvania State Police ambush that left one trooper dead and wounded another.

Joshua Prince, of the Bechtelsville, Pa.-based Prince Law Offices, posted a message on the firm's website Monday night encouraging residents to contact the firm if they believe their rights have been violated by police during the search for Frein, who is sought in the shooting outside the state police Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County.

"If you are a resident of Pike or Monroe County and had your rights violated by the (Pennsylvania State Police), either by unlawfully evicting you from your home or searching your vehicle without a warrant, please contact us to discuss your legal options," the message says.

Prince, in his message, cites media reports of police checking vehicles without warrants or probable cause and not allowing residents to return to their homes during periods of the search.

Officials opened temporary shelters for displaced residents last week in Barrett Township, Monroe County, and Price Township, Pike County, as police activity intensified during the search for Frein.

Other measures have also been taken to protect residents during the manhunt. There have been road closures, schools have shuttered and sporting events have been postponed as police try to track down Frein, a survivalist whom authorities considered armed and extremely dangerous.

A Pennsylvania State Police spokesman on Tuesday afternoon said in an email that state police are aware of the firm's post.

"During our search operations in the area, we have been diligent in respecting the rights of the public while working hard to keep both residents and law enforcement safe," Trooper Adam Reed said.

Efforts to reach Prince on Tuesday afternoon were unsuccessful. Messages left at the firm were not immediately returned.

Frein, who has been placed on the FBI's 10 most wanted list, remained on the lam Tuesday afternoon, 11 days after the ambush.

Interesting perspective, and one I tend to agree with.

Contrast this with the reaction by a good number of folks on this forum who took tremendous issues with the behavior of law enforcement on the heels of the Boston marathon bombing.

Someone willing to blow up scores of completely innocent bystanders is orders of magnitude more dangerous than a lone wolf. JMO.

Not everyone can do that. My friend’s DiL is alone, Hubby is away on business. She’s terrified.

Youre going to have a hard job debating this w/ the boot lickers. Theyre still living in a LaLa land where the COPs and govt are your best friends. Its their sort of ‘thinking’ thats left us in the police state we currently enjoy. Really, theyre simply cowards willing to have someone else fight their battles for a bit of lost freedom for them and us. It matters little if not all agree to lose that freedom theyre so willing to give up.

My friend’s DiL doesn’t carry. She’s a nurse and has to work and lives rurally. It’s a nightmare for some of these people. Not everyone is as capable as most FReepers.

You’re an idiot. Are you a lawyer too? As I’ve said, not everyone is capable of defending themselves against an armed nut case.

Who’s angry about the manhunt....besides the lawyer trolling for work, and people who don’t LIVE IN THE AREA?

Get a grip! If this guy was hiding in your wife/mother/sister/daughter’s house/vehicle and got away with killing them you’d be screaming they were too busy out shooting dogs to do their job. You need a reality check

The police locked down Boston and surrounding communities affecting 1,000,000 people over 100 square miles looking for one marathon bomber. They ordered people to stay in their homes. They made people come out of their homes with hands up and then searched homes without warrants. This intense search took place in an area of about 32,000 people over a half square mile. Finally, the sequester order was lifted. Within an hour a formerly sequestered citizen spotted the bomber. This was a total waste of time for 1,000,000 people. I think your reality sucks.

“Actually I would not and I am surprised there haven’t been any dogs shot so far.”

Well, you only have to look at the Donner rogue cop hunt in Los Angeles to validate your premise. Cops were shooting at anyone and anything in that fiasco.

They must have tired of ambulance chasing and switched to patrol car chasing.

OK, explain why...you didnt do that. You dont understand the police arent there to protect you...thats been hashed out in court long ago. Nope, not a lawyer. Your justification for curtailment of our Constitutional rights is b/c not everyone can defend themselves? See above. What did we all do before our current police state was in place?

This isn’t Boston or the Marathon Bomber. Not all situations are the same. And they aren’t searching peoples homes. They have road blocks and are checking vehicles.

Explain why I didn't do what?!

I know several families in the area and they are not equipped to deal with an armed nutcase. They are mostly women, from 18 to 42 (one's Hubby is away and the others are single) , and although one has a shotgun the others don't. Why can't you understand that? People in that area are terrified and just are not able to deal with this guy. That's the reality. Put your machismo back in your pants and worry about your neighborhood.

OK, then she can voluntarily choose to let cops in to search her house for her. I'm not talking about prohibiting searches, I'm talking about prohibiting searches without homeowner consent.

Where did you get that idea?! They are NOT searching houses, just vehicles. They closed schools and housing areas last week. This week the schools can open at their discretion. I have never heard of them searching anyone's home.

Your reading comprehension is low....better work on that.

If they arent equipped (prepared) thats not my fault nor am I willing to ceed my rights b/c of it. Its also not my problem the people of the area are scared. Many people are scared but still able to function...man up already. Frankly, you all sound like garden variety liberals, unprepared for the realities of life but very happy to drag every one down as yo sink.
