Ebola Death Rate 70 Percent, WHO Says in Dire New Forecast

World Health Organization researchers issued a dire new forecast for the Ebola epidemic Tuesday, one that sees 20,000 cases by November, much sooner than previous estimates. And 70 percent of patients are dying.

That's a big increase over the previous estimates of a 50 percent fatality rate.

“These data indicate that without drastic improvements in control measures, the numbers of cases of and deaths from Ebola virus disease are expected to continue increasing from hundreds to thousands per week in the coming months,” the WHO Ebola Response Team, led by Dr. Christopher Dye, wrote in a report rushed into print by the New England Journal of Medicine.

Not to worry - the 3,000 ‘boots’ we're sending over can easily control a million person epidemic....

Wait until they develop the vaccine. They’ll be giving it in gas stations.

FYI. WHO forecasts are not at the level of your predictions yet, at least not for the end of the month, but it’s much more realistic than their old numbers.

Good grief!

Hopefully we will stop the insanity of flying Ebola patients all over the globe for reasons unknown.
One would think reducing travel to impacted regions would help slow disease spread.

WHO is speading alarm to get grants which will disappear into some dictators’ pockets. It will not do a thing to prevent the spread of ebola when there are “experts” from Africa flying to NYC every other week for some worthless conference, as they are doing this week.

The goal is to limit a 10,000 person epidemic now so that it's only a 15,000 person epidemic by the end of November when we finally control it. Those numbers are unrealistically low (the real numbers are more than double), but 3,000 of our people can make a huge difference, possibly enough to bring this under control if they go in the next couple of weeks.

That said, I agree with you if your concern is over whether the anti-American druggie in our White House will actually give or even approve sensible orders for our military to do what they do best safely and then step back to allow Africans to deal with patients face-to-face. We should build mobile hospitals (MASH units), with a total of 10k to 20k patient cots distributed over the areas with active disease. We can't just send the tents because Africans with too much work and too little experience with mobile hospitals would not locate them in the right spots or set them up correctly. Unfortunately, I doubt that Obama will use our forces intelligently. He has never done anything sensible since he took power, and I see no signs of him learning from his massive errors.

NYT: Fresh Graves Point to Undercount of Ebola Toll
"Since the beginning of the outbreak more than six months ago, the Sierra Leone Health Ministry reported only 10 confirmed Ebola deaths here in Freetown, the capital of more than one million people, and its suburbs as of Sunday — a hopeful sign that this city, unlike the capital of neighboring Liberia, had been relatively spared the ravages of the outbreak"......"But the bodies pouring in to the graveyard tell a different story. In the last eight days alone, 110 Ebola victims have been buried at King Tom Cemetery, according to the supervisor, Abdul Rahman Parker, suggesting an outbreak that is much more deadly than either the government or international health officials have announced."

OK, let’s take a breath here.

Ebola used to be over 95% death rate. Now in Africa it is a 70% or less death rate.

That is worth a cheer.

As far as I know every known Ebola patient that came to the USA has recovered. That is called 100% folks.

We can cure Ebola and it does not take a fancy vaccine as everyone knows from reading the earliest reports.

General good health lots of fluids and proper diet will let the body beat this thing.

This report is about Africa where the hopitals are sending people back home because there are no beds. The diet is poor. The family does not have the knowledge. It spreads because they try to help their family member and catch it.

Good thing I am not a conspiracy nut because there is plenty of meat for that here.

“As far as I know every known Ebola patient that came to the USA has recovered. That is called 100% folks.”

This is what I said a few weeks ago. Africa: They don’t bathe, wash clothes, they eating rotting “bush meat” whatever the hell that is - they don’t get vegetables, they have no money, they have the mentality of 4 year olds about lists being compiled and people trying to help....

Sorry, like Mr. Butler, I just don’t give a damn.....
