Israel shot down a Syrian aircraft on Tuesday as it attempted to fly over the ceasefire line into the Golan Heights, according to IDF Radio.
"This Syrian aircraft, apparently a MiG-21 (fighter jet), which was approaching the Israeli side of the Golan, was shot down by a surface-to-air Patriot missile," the radio said.
The wreckage of the aircraft landed on the Syrian-controlled side of the strategic plateau, it added.

The Mig 21 was obsolete 20 years ago and is not much of a threat
maybe the pilot was trying to defect ?
isn’t the signal that an aircraft is trying to defect or surrender , that they lower the landing gear ?
“They will just know I’m trying to defect, AND give me benefit of the doubt”...
DUH!.. To wit: BAD camel get yer nose out of my tent.. (so to speak)..
Is it defection or desertion? If it took him this long to make a decision to defect, what is the true value of said defection?
With the crap going haywire all of a sudeen, I say it may have been a simple case of the idiot was not smart enough to be doing nothing but to save his own arsche. It most certainly did not occur because of all a sudden he developed a case of conscience.
Was it a ISIS jet that was captured?
You might recall that we got a Mig 25, after Viktor Belenko flew it into Japan. Obviously, I never met Belenko. I was just a peon, but I did know a USAF Major, who had spoken to him at length. I read his book "Mig Pilot" it was quite a story. I wonder what he thinks of Putin today?
This is the Wild Card that Obama never thought of. He figured he could pin prick his Muslim buddies in the Islamic State just enough to deflect criticism, and save the Democrats behinds in the coming mid-terms.
What he fails to realize is that the Muslims will strike against Israel, and Israel can retaliate.
I am not completely sold on all the Blood Moon theories, but it sure sounds to me like God is trying to get our attention.
The Brown Bess was obsolete 220 years ago, but I still wouldn't want someone taking a potshot at me with one. F4U Corsairs were used in Vietnam as late as 1967.
Good. If the US had any guts we would have shot down those Russian warplanes that invaded our airspace last week.
Then it was a dastardly Syrian attempt to bankrupt Israel and the West. The cost of the Patriot missile is greater than the value of the flying rust bucket it hit.

I am told that this was a Fencer (Su-24MK) (think of a cross between an F-14 and an A-10 — actually a nice plane for its role if it has updated ECM and not in the MK variation) performing ground support operations.
Also a rumor the pilot was trying to pull a Rudolf Hess and the IDF was more accurate than the RAF.
