“...handguns, ammunition and 33 pounds of marijuana in her checked baggage”

In Canada she would be sent to penitentiary for a very long time for having the handguns and ammunition… The marijuana on the other hand, they would likely just seize that and then smoke it later on.

In legal terms the air (regarding travel) is under Federal jurisdiction only. The problem is when you land. If your luggage is transferred from one aircraft to another you are safe because you never take possession of the firearm. If you get your luggage at the baggage claim, you’ve “taken possession” of the firearm and if that’s illegal in the state where the airport is located, you can be arrested, despite the fact that Federal statute specifies travelers are exempt from state laws when traveling.

They should let her go; she is obviously not of sound mind.

hmmmm.....somehow she got it all through baggage screening back home, where the handguns would have been pretty much illegal. Very interesting!

Let me guess... al-amish, right?

Toronto Star has her picture. She is a young woman of pleasing looks facially and would be described as being of African heritage.

She sure needs a good lawyer.

Your post much appreciated and I just wonder about how the young woman got to be in such a fix. I said to my wife, out of the blue, maybe she was a mule.

I will follow the case carefully and see just how she got to where she is.

More like a diversion, that is the first thing I thought. While all the cops were dealing with her, what else happened that was overlooked.

While all the cops were dealing with her, what else happened that was overlooked .

A perceptive comment here. I somehow felt uneasy about the whole thing. Perhaps it was the look on the young woman's face. Sort of looked like a deer caught in the headlights. More to this than meets the eye.

Although up here in Canada, my newspaper of choice is not the Toronto Star, I will keep an eye out. Give them their due, leftists though they are, they can still do a good story.

PS. Levin rocks! (laughs).
