IS has used chlorine gas against Iraqi soldiers

Iraqi Member of Parliament Ali al-Bredi has claimed that Islamic State (IS) militants are using Chlorine gas against Iraqi soldiers in Fallujah.
In a press conference on Monday, al-Bredi revealed that IS have killed 300 Iraqi soldiers with chlorine gas.
He said that the militants deployed the gas in the Siqiliya area located of northern Fallujah, a city in Anbar province, about 70 km from the capital of Iraq, Baghdad.
“Responsibility for this lies with Iraqi PM Haidar Abadi and the commander of the forces in Anbar as they failed to rescue the soldiers,” said al-Bredi.
Expanding on the circumstances surrounding the attack, al-Bredi said, “After the insurgents surrounded the Iraqi soldiers, they used chlorine gas to suffocate them before detonating a car bomb, resulting in the death of 300 out of 400 soldiers.”
Al-Bredi also said that before the crime was committed, the soldiers asked for an urgent rescue mission, but were ignored.
Furthermore, on Sunday, US Secretary of State John Kerry also reiterated US concern over the use of chlorine gas against civilians in Syria and warned President Bashar al-Assad’s regime that it would be held to account.

Sounds like the gas was used to immobilize then a bomb used to blow them up.
Chlorine gas is nasty stuff. If you have a pool and mix powder with water it can explode if you have mix 2 incompatible granular bases. Sent me to the ER.
It happens a lot when people try to shock a pool through the tablet dispensers.
I have no idea whether it’s true or not. Certainly not something they’d avoid for reasons of morality.
But it’s a tough weapon to use without potentially impacting your own troops.
I would make sure there were some, if only for a few seconds. Then ISIL would not be there. Nor would the WMD.

Bottled chlorine gas is used in water purification. Just bring the cylinders to an upwind location and vent. There are pictures from WW1 showing this being done on the Western Front. However, unless the enemy is concentrated in a relatively small area (or a building, etc.), it is hard to achieve a “field” (or lethal) concentration this way. And if the wind shifts, the attacker becomes the attacked.
ISIS probably used up a lot of chlorine gas in making this attack and might have difficulty repeating it. Once might be enough if it sufficiently damages Iraqi Army morale.
The defense is gas masks with combat (vice training) filters. But chemical (gas) warfare has been outlawed, so who carries gas masks any more, right? I imagine the Iraqi Army is scrambling right now to issue/obtain gas masks.
Any doubt remaining as to what these ISIS bast*rds would immediately do if they got hold of real WMDs (chem/bio/nuclear)?
There is no gradualism or half measures with ISIS. How long will it be before the Western Powers realize that we don’t have the time needed to train up the Free Syrian Army/Peshmerga/etc. to do this work?

There was a story last week of a shell exploding and killing a bunch of ISIS.
From what I’ve read there are a large quantity of artillery shells containing chlorine in Iraq.

If IS were to cut the heads off all non-IS in both Iraq and Syria, it's NOT OUR BUSINESS.
All public water systems of a significant size will have ton cylinders of gaseous chlorine for maintaining the quality of the public water system and disinfection of treated wastewater. Take away the chlorine and disease such as typhus and diphtheria will become established.

Not necessarily. The Iraqis were being lazy and now they are paying for it. Experience is indeed the best teacher - some will learn no other way.
I knew this was coming when, a week or two ago, there was a story about a bunch of ISIS terrorists killing themselves while loading chlorine into a missile.
