CRYING RAPE: False rape accusations exist, and they are a serious problem.
SLATE ^ | 09/20/2014 | Cathy Young

In the emotionally charged conversation about rape, few topics are more fraught than that of false allegations. Consider some responses to the news that singer-songwriter Conor Oberst had been falsely accused of sexual assault. Last December a woman writing in the comments section of the website xoJane, going by the name Joanie Faircloth, claimed Oberst raped her when she was a teenager.

The charge spread across the Internet; Oberst denied it and brought a libel suit against Faircloth when she refused to retract the story. In July she completely recanted, admitting that she had made it all up to get attention. Yet instead of showing sympathy for the ordeal of the musician—one known for being supportive of feminist issues—some chided him for taking legal action to defend himself against a false, career-damaging charge. In the Daily Dot, pop culture critic Chris Ostendorf decried the lawsuit, arguing that it could intimidate real victims of rape and that it promoted the idea of men as victims of false accusations—even though that’s exactly what Oberst was. After Oberst dropped the suit, Bustle’s Caroline Pate praised his decision and referred to the saga as “a roller-coaster for both parties”—treating the false accuser and the wrongly accused as morally equivalent—and called the revelation of Oberst’s innocence “crushingly disappointing.”

False rape accusations are a lightning rod for a variety of reasons. Rape is a repugnant crime—and one for which the evidence often relies on one person’s word against another’s. Moreover, in the not-so-distant past, the belief that women routinely make up rape charges often led to appalling treatment of victims. However, in challenging what author and law professor Susan Estrich has called “the myth of the lying woman,” feminists have been creating their own counter-myth: that of the woman who never lies.

I’ve never attempted to make the issue cut and dry; in fact, I’ve admitted that there are certainly gray areas. The ideal situation is that the vic, male or female, gets to a hospital ASAP.

What is unfortunate is that some don’t. As I stated in a previous post: Describe in intimate detail your last sexual encounter to the next stranger you meet. Now imagine doing that after screaming no and fighting. Add on to that you’re 18 and what will people think? What will your parents have to go through? It just takes one person to mention that beer you drank (you’ve never drank an ounce of alcohol), and you’re a slut. Sluts deserve what they get, right? Just ask the locals at the salons and bars.

You sound like a GOP Senate candidate with that explanation of how a woman’s body acts during rape vs rough sex. Please stop it.

sadly its getting to the point where crying rape is almost like crying racism: while there are real situations of both which should be penalized its also an easy excuse if you don’t like the way things turn out...

“If a woman gets off on the roughness there will be no significant....blah blah blah”.

You’re making this site sound idiotic.

the dorms for men and women on college campuses were SEPARATE and there were strict visitation rules (i.e., men were not allowed to enter the women’s dorm rooms ).
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
My wife was one of the ‘Government Girls’ that were recruited from across the country to come to DC and work for the Government.
She was in a ‘Dormitory’ in DC and worked at the Pentagon. I got stationed at the Pentagon in 62 and met her.
She was the Secretary for my CO and not many people were happy that an ‘enlisted swine’ such as myself was courting the Bosses Secretary.
As to the Dorm, Males were allowed in the LOBBY only and had restricted hours they could do that.

‘They’ tried to break us up but I was hard headed etc and ended up getting married while they said it would never last - they were right, 43 years later I finally divorced her. (Mutual decision).

If you read through the comments, you’ll see that an ER nurse (or doc) has already commented on the medical and forensic evidence issues. A simple Internet search will lead you to the same conclusions. If you have contradictory facts I’d like to see them. I’m always game for new information!

Odd, then how the cases jumped on my the lefties - the Duke Lacrosse case and Tawana Brawley, turned out to be false.

So you’re saying it’s just a co-incidence?

I’ve never typed such a thing. I’m simply trying to get across the issue that victims are at risk as well. I’m basing this on my own experience of listening to coworkers blame the victim. It happens. So do false accusations. Both are devastating.

If you have contradictory facts I’d like to see them. I’m always game for new information!

There are many studies - the 2% figure comes from compling cases where the false allegation was PROSECUTED. Very few of them are.

Several studies of cases of rape tend to conclude that about 20% of the cases are "no crime" -which means in the opinion of the investigator no crime occurred (which is different that believing a crime occurred, but lacking evidence to prosecute.)

Here's some info on it - I have a lot more if you'd like:

In the mean time please pray for the male and female victims, especially those who are children, who don’t have the courage to come forward. I will pray for them as well!

Wrong. In both instances there will be evidence on the cervix. In the rape situation, there will be evidence on the vagina’s entrance. If the female gets off on the roughness, there will be no significant evidence on the vagina’s entrance.

Are you expecting those reading this to take you seriously?

Each of the three sentences are glaringly ridiculous.

Well, I was the victim of a false claim of domestic abuse. My ex-wife slugged me and I called the cops. She made up the false claim to protect herself during the divorce.

Even though it was shown to be false, it devastated my life. The false claim was not prosecuted because the prosecutor told me she didn’t want to bother with it.

On the other hand, a woman stalked me for several months. She took my phone out of my car, called all my contacts, broke into my house, and once came into my house and got into my bed when I was sleeping. When woke and found her there I told her to leave she beat me up. All I could do was let her hit me.

When I called the local PD to make a complaint the guy laughed at me “I’m not going to get involved in your personal life” he told me.

The fact is false claims don’t tend to be prosecuted, and male victims are blown off.
