Conservatives don't foresee challenge to John Boehner's speakership

WASHINGTON, D. C. -- The House of Representatives' most conservative members -- who have grumbled in the past about ousting Ohio's John Boehner from his job as House Speaker -- now say they're happy with their treatment and don't expect to mount an insurrection in the next Congress.

Members of the Republican Study Committee told reporters at their monthly "Conversations with Conservatives" gathering that they believe that newly established Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and GOP Whip Steve Scalise -- who chaired the study committee before assuming his new job -- are doing a better job listening to the sentiments of those in the GOP Conference.

South Carolina's Mick Mulvaney said he was pleased that when Republican leaders didn't have enough votes to pass immigration legislation in August, they sat down with conservatives to "get the bill a bit further to the right" so it could pass with Republican votes.

He said that in the past, GOP leaders would have tried to get votes from Democrats, or send Congress home without a vote.

"It is a more bottom-up management style than it has been in the past and the outcomes have been better because they're more conservative," Mulvaney said.

Idaho's Raul Labrador, who challenged McCarthy's bid for Majority Leader, said he felt GOP leaders heard his message that they needed "to start listening to the conference."

Funded Obama care, no one calling for a budget,a true clusterf___ in the Middle East as predicted by G.W. Bush. No action on immigration and the diseased illegals, and back out on vacation. My heart is heavy and all the while persons that point out the lawless corruption and disregard to current law are branded extreme by the major media outlets. A stranger in my own country...never in my life or my childrens did I even fathom this happening. And the most twisted part is you have more rights as an illegal than the citizen PAYING for all of the services...I say feed the tree of Liberty.

Awesome. That really motivates me to run out and vote in some more Republicans. What does it matter if we win back Congress? All Boehner is going to do is cry while Obama does whatever the hell he wants.

I’m sure this thread is filled with whining comments that are detached from political reality.

As I said in July

“Unless he chokes to death on one of his cigarettes, there is roughly a zero % chance that anyone other than Boehner will be Speaker next year. Rat chances for majority are nihilistic. The most realistic scenario for a Boehner resignation would be a 1998 scenario, where the GOP surprisingly lost seats, that is not something any rational person hopes for. This fixation with removing the GOP leadership is not productive, the next leaders will compromise and lose popularity here as well, McConnell was very well liked here at one time. The leadership reflects the conference, the best thing to make the leadership compromise less is to elect as many Republicans as possible. The smaller the majority, the worse it is.”

The sad truth is that it matters very little. It would be nice to see Reid go but that’s about all the satisfaction we’ll get. Prepare for major disappointment if the Pubbies take “control”.

Exactly.

There’s only been one conservative leader in either House of Congress over the last 50 years...and he was ignobly dumped by his caucus.

The GOP members WANT a moderate leader.

I always thought there should have been a Benghazi committee long before now. But now I wonder if the timing is a matter of politics, closer to midterm elections and the presidential primary. Could Boehner have made a plan?

Good point.

What would a Federal Politician do if he/she were to be banned from spending our money for one year?

That’s because conservatives have failed to create an effective political organization. Listening to Rush and bitching about things on FR isn’t going to change a thing.

That sounds like a plausible solution. However, with all due respect, you have a misplaced faith in the Republican Party. There are very powerful, intrenched money interests and a deep seated organizational culture in place that run the party with an iron fist. I know a number of people who have worked inside the GOP machine and just don’t believe the party is capable of meaningful change. Believe me, the TPTB in the party know how to manage those who would dare to challenge to the status quo.

It would take another Reagan to reform the party, but even then it would only be temporary.

Start sending them ping pong balls, they can put them
in their pockets and pretend that they have a pair.
that's a very, very good idea.
in 1979, I gave our D'Rat Senator (Ford); a tobacco stick, inscribed w/ note:
"This stick, is to be used (between the eyes) on Sen. Jack@$$, when he makes a stupid/ignorant vote"

Seriously, what’s the point of being a citizen anymore? The privilege of paying for others?

BTW, your children will have the “privilege” of dealing with a debt that will soon be approaching $20 TRILLION.

Of whom do you speak, former Minority Leader John J. Rhodes, who was forced out? Charles Halleck, who lost to Ford?

What about Ev Dirksen in the Senate?
