Interesting question. I wonder if independence wins, since they’re becoming independent from an EU member state, if they’re automagically in the EU, or if they’ have to join if they want in.

Yarddog,

Oh I am getting goosebumps at reading those lyrics....

My mom grew up with a strong sense of Scottish independence.... so much so, that she considered Scotland an independent nation.

Her dad, my granddaddy, came over in the ‘20’s....

I remember the songs, the stories, the fierce independence...

When she and I went back to the old country, I remember seeing British army guys in a truck going the other way on one of the roads.... the thought crossed my mind... “what are THOSE guys doing HERE?”

Well the Scots today are nothing like that quote and I would not build them up as tea party types fighting against the establishment. They ARE the establishment. They are one-worlders and socialists further to the left than England. It is their right to pick what they want to do. I do wish them well.

So far the first results are small; nothing much can be deduced from them.

Glasgow, Edinburgh, are the ones to watch.

Really? “Thinking people” voted in Obama? TWICE??!? Somehow I doubt that.<\i>

About 35% thought they didn't want their federal benefit checks (means tested) cut.

No one in Scotland can claim the result wasn’t free and fair.

It was an unequivocal repudiation of independence by a decisive margin. That closes the door on the issue for a long time.

My understanding is that only a small portion of the vote has been counted yet.

I do envy their vote turn-out.

A predictable, yet ultimately insignificant loss. That the Scott did so well towards Independence is indeed a sign of the times. But Allegiances don’t change without causes dire, and had the English had a more intolerable attitude there would be no contestant in the case for Independence except with the English.

As for the Risks, I find it laughable how vastly overstated they were by various men of power worried needlessly about their vast investments and global financial empires being ticked by a slightly more diverse legal landscape.

Would it have hurt the economy of Scotland? seriously i doubt it, although that very much depended upon the subsequent will of the Scottish people and government towards internalal and domestic trade. Frankly if the Scot’s can’t trust themselves they have no business trusting the English either.

There is a trend... and rural areas should be stronger for independence than the big cities.

About 40-45% of the voters want outright independence. More? That’s a good question.

Like with the Quebecois, the issue is not a simple cut or a clear one.

Every one favors independence in the abstract. Making it work - a lot of issues have to be resolved for that to happen.

Its not like you can check “yes” on the ballot and expect roses and champagne in the morning.
