Shockwaves reverberated through Eastern Europe tonight after Vladimir Putin boasted he could invade five NATO capitals inside two days.

This came amid new reports that almost 4,000 Russia troops are massing in Crimea close to Ukraine's mainland.

'If I wanted, Russian troops could not only be in Kiev in two days, but in Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, Warsaw or Bucharest, too,' Putin was quoted as threatening, according to Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko.

All are former USSR or Soviet-bloc cities and apart from Ukraine their countries are now NATO and EU members.

If anything is certain in this world, it's that Obama would renege on America's NATO commitments if this did occur.

And, he'd probably have the support of the American people when they realize the potential for nuclear war was at stake.

Sad and scary times.

It's ONLY Obama's weakness that would even put such a scenario on the table.

ONLY that.

He might get to Warsaw, but he’d have to climb over a mountain of dead Russians to get there.

The Russians thought that in 1920, too. Didn’t work out.

No doubt there is going to be a confrontation with the Russia sometime in the future.

And maybe this time it will end in nukes as you suggest might happen.

Hence my tag line. The despots of the world are drawing up their plans. They know they have until January of 2017. We are in the calm before the storm.

And yes, this is the “calm”.

If anything is certain in this world, it's that Obama would renege on America's NATO commitments if this did occur.

What's even more worrisome is that our NATO allies are fully aware of this, too, making them much more vulnerable to Russian manipulation. They see what is happening in the Ukraine, as well as the lack of any response. They know their world isn't as safe as it used to be, and they might need to cozy up to the big bad bully on the block if NATO isn't going to protect them.

Not unprecedented. We promised to help out the Hungarians against their communist masters in 1953, and when they rose up, we reneged.

Gosh, Putin has a way with words. In five days Obama might take a stroke or two off his golf game, I wonder if he fudges his score.

You’re right— he’d be lucky if he could recover a toe from one of his Russian soldiers— after 250 years of deportations, executions and betrayals the Poles would tear them to pieces, literally.

I know that you were be sarcastic.

They don’t have to. They have us.

At least, they are expecting us to come to the rescue. Maybe, maybe not.

This is total nonsense, and is for the gullible.

Russia doesn’t have the ability to launch a large invasion against NATO, it doesn’t have the muscle, or the Army structure, or depth to pull off anything like this.

I don’t know why people don’t realize that this is not the old Russia of 25 years ago.
