New groundwater laws to have ripple effect on agriculture (w/video)

Gov. Jerry Brown signed historic groundwater legislation Tuesday, imposing new rules in the Golden State that could limit how much water commercial and residential users are allowed to pump from underground aquifers — a move decades in the works, spurred this year by California’s drought.

The new laws, which take effect in January, will require local government officials to ensure use of groundwater basins is sustainable, protecting underground reserves and averting other environmental damage. The regulations could have a ripple effect on thousands of farmers and ranchers across the North Coast.

The only fields and orchards that are green in the San Joaquin Valley are those irrigated by ground water. The reservoirs are dry.

Does this law require the govt. put meters on every existing and future well? If not, how else could they regulate what is being pumped?

I’m sure it will, sometime in the near future. Then monitoring of homeowners private wells, then taxes on private wells will be sure to follow.

I could sit here a smugly laugh at the destruction of CA, but unfortunately, living in Nevada which is a border state of California, their leftist proceed to flood over the Sierras like a horde of locusts, causing a once conservative state to vote for emperor nero kardashian narcissus not once, but twice
