Enterovirus D68 is likely coming -- if it hasn't already -- to a state near you.

Since mid-August, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had confirmed 140 cases of respiratory illness caused by Enterovirus D68 in 16 states: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

New Jersey also has confirmed a case of EV-D68, according to Donna Leusner, director of communications for the New Jersey Department of Health.

And "in the upcoming weeks, more states will have confirmed cases of EV-D68 infection," the CDC said in a statement Wednesday.

"Several states are investigating clusters of people with severe respiratory illness, and specimens are still being tested for EV-D68. It can take a while to test specimens and obtain lab results... These increases will not necessarily reflect changes in real time, or mean that the situation is getting worse."

Canadian health officials have confirmed three cases of Enterovirus D68 in British Columbia. A fourth suspected case from a patient with severe respiratory illness is still under investigation...

It’s all over the place. Testing has slowed way down.

It’s also, basically, a bad cold.

I wonder if this has to due to all the antibiotics in the meat supply?

Plus diet - my mom always cooked from scratch and made homemade foods of all types - nowadays, those same foods are heavy processed and laced with chemicals...

I wonder if those that are becoming susceptible are overweight as well???

courtesy of illegal aliens from the Mexican border.

the best thing that will come across that same border will be ISIS. Women, make sure you know how to use a gun or you’re likely to be raped.

The odd thing, though, is that a bunch of kids ended up in ICU. THAT seems unusual to me, but I am not a pediatrician.

Add Massachusetts to the list. My wife is an elementary school principal in MA and six kids this week have been sent home or called out with the same symptoms.

For over 40 years this disease was “RARE” in the USA.

But post-TEA PARTY the MOslem Obola decided
to begin his INTOLERABLE ACTS against the American
people, Constitution and Law,
and to murder, by infection and IS, Americans wholesale.

The EXEMPT?
Asleep, whoring, drunk, at their brothels for another month
as America is murdered is slow motion.

This is not just a kid thing as my sister and brother in law found out. Three weeks ago they went on a cruise with their son and his wife and 4 year old. At the end of the week of fun all were sick. The 4 year old was over it in a week and her father took 10 days to recover. The nasty part is the 64 year old and the 70 year old are still sick. We just leave stuff they need on the front porch ring the bell and run away.

Fear mongering is the way to go now, bud! I’m with you. The media is in a tizzy over all the terror and fear they can sow. Meanwhile, people are cowering in fear that they’re going to get sick with something.

I’m sorry, but living life in fear of death is no way to live at all. I’m not saying be complacent or ignorant, but seriously, eat a good diet, nothing from a box or a bag, get plenty of sleep, avoid large crowds, drink alcohol moderately, drink a lot of water, and stay active. People think there’s something to fear around every corner, and there is, but shuddering oneself in their home and not going outside for fear of catching a cold is just outright silly.

For young kids and especially those with asthma, Enterovirus D68 can put one in the ICU quickly. Severe symptoms can develop very fast. My daughter has asthma, so when she got a cold yesterday, we monitored very closely, but, so far, it looks like “just a cold”, thank God.

It IS unusual. The KC pediatricians were particularly “impressed” due to the rapidity with which the “common cold” symptoms can ramp up into a child in the ICU, and, the number of such instances.

Most Enteroviruses are not so severe, but then again, I had one hit my digestive system: While I managed to walk into the ER, by the time they got to me they had to put me, a normally active and healthy adult, in a wheelchair to get me to treatment.

No. It's a virus. Antibiotics in the meat supply, and over-prescription of antibiotics, and folks not finishing the course of antibiotics prescribed, contribute to the rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria. They are irrelevant to the spread of viruses, as antibiotics do not affect viruses.

Thank you for posting pretty much the same response as I was about to.

I would also add that until rather recently, people would go to the doctor’s with nothing more than a viral infection and would demand to get an Rx for an antibiotic from their doctor falsely believing that an antibiotic would cure them, and that way too many doctors would give in without any indications of a secondary bacterial infection or even testing for it. Thank goodness more doctors now are aware of this problem and in most cases a viral infection needs nothing more than some bed rest, liquids, OTC pain relievers and some chicken soup.

And way too many people who get an Rx for an antibiotic even when indicated for a secondary bacterial infection, stop taking it as soon as they feel better rather than taking the entire course.

As far as the use of antibiotics in the meat supply, i.e. by cattle and chicken other live stock producers on their live stock, this is not always necessarily a bad thing nor has it ever been proven to translate to human anti-biotic resistance. But indiscriminate use and over use of antibiotics should probably be avoided in both live stock and humans

No it’s a lot worse than a bad cold, especially if the child has any history of asthma or reactive airway disease. Over the last week and a half we’ve had to transfer 4 kids to pediatric ICUs due to persistent bronchospasm that this nasty little bug causes.

Sounds like “the crud.” Drink lots of water, suffer with it and then recover.
