I’ve sometimes wondered to what extent the media portrayal of smallish women engaging in hand to hand with much larger men and winning has contributed to this. Until they find out the hard way, I think many modern women don’t realize how extreme the disparity is between the sexes in their ability to commit violence effectively.

And then you have the proliferation of "women's self defense" classes, which have women sparring with male instructors who are not really trying their best to hurt their female students. Then they get into a real-world fight against some guy who actually hits back and shatters their illusion of being a bad-ass gurrrrl.

For most women, the only truly effective and practical defense against a male attacker is a handgun. Self-defense courses are an exercise in self-delusion.

Oddly enough, modern feminists in general are among those most adamant about eliminating women’s only effective way to defend themselves. A female who knows how to use her gun is every bit as deadly as a man. No other method of self-defense even comes close.
