Ebola's Warning for an Unprepared America
WSJ ^ | 9/16/14 | Scott Gottlieb And Tevi Troy

Posted on 09/17/2014 11:02:41 AM PDT by Kartographer

The Department of Homeland Security's inspector general just issued a highly critical report finding that DHS lacks sufficient supplies and preparedness to handle a domestic pandemic. Thirteen years ago, soon after the 9/11 attacks, letters laced with anthrax killed five Americans. Just as 9/11 revealed the country's vulnerabilities to terror attacks, the anthrax episode exposed the need for better routine surveillance and strategic stockpiling of key countermeasures against viral outbreaks or bioterror attacks. We're still far less prepared than we should be, and far more vulnerable than we're admitting.

Have no fear Obama will do all in his power to contaminate the US military and spread Ebola here in the states.

If the victim touches a hard surface, these virus sheds are called 'fomites'

Not just hard surfaces, but porous ones including fabrics are readily contaminated, apparently retain the viral load longer, and are harder to decontaminate.

Another thing we should have spent TARP money on ... if we even had to spend TARP money at all.

How more "shovel ready" can you get than stockpiling first aid kits, etc.?

Why did our government purchase all those guns and bullets when they should have been buying up cots and blankets?

Disaster preparednees? DHS has a billion rounds of ammo. What else do they need, besides some back hoes and a large supply of lime?

DHS has better things to do like feel up and harass air travelers.

And make sure our borders are wide open, to allow GOKW to come in.

Are you beginning to understand the real meaning of “shovel ready”, now?

Ok, I get it. DHS needs another trillion dollars or we are all going to die.

JV Obama promised “shovel ready jobs” -— he meant: Mass Graves!!

They were created as a means to suppress elements of our society the govt doesnt like. Basically, a domestic ‘army’ along w/ the other alphabet agencies unencumbered by laws that have traditionally kept our military under control. While there maybe elements of do-gooders in these agencies theyre main goal is to dominate not save.

Call a Vet that had time in the sand box and he will show you how to make a giant can opener. Also cooks the meat inside at the same time.

To use a favored Obama term, this will be a man-caused disaster of the first order.

Let’s start with the notion of using our military personnel to battle ebola in West Africa. I began my career as an Air Force medic over 30 years ago; before getting a chance to work for the wing commander (which got me to OTS), I spent almost two years as an Air Force medic. In those days, at the five skill-level, we were trained to the standard of an EMT basic.

It’s been a long time, but I can’t recall anything in my training that prepared us for something as dangerous as ebola. And quite frankly, I’m not sure how many of our nurses and doctors were trained for that type of outbreak, either. I will certainly defer to military medics who have been trained—and served—more recently, regarding their preparation for something like ebola.

Of course, Barry O has assured us that military members won’t actually be in the hot zone. Does anyone actually believe that? The two dozen new clinics we’re supposed to built will be one the edge of the affected areas to serve those who have come down with the disease. And aren’t our personnel supposed to provide training for African health workers—the same ones who’ve been working with ebola patients?

Not that our military medics would run any risk of being exposed to the disease. As I recall, Dr. Brantley—who had extensive experience working with ebola patients—was exposed in a supposedly “safe” area, and despite taking all required precautions.

I’ve also heard we’re sending combat engineers and security personnel to support the mission. Again, the regime tells us there is no chance those men and women will come in contact with ebola patients. Gee..wonder how many villagers have fled the hot zone and continue their exodus? And how many will we hire as translators and staff, and what kind of health screening will they receive before going on our payroll?

In closing, a historical note: the incubation period for ebola is supposedly 21 days, and the virus may linger for longer periods in semen and vaginal secretions. Do we plan to place military members returning from West Africa in isolation, or release them into the general public? In 1918-1919, many Americans who caught the Spanish flu—and died from it—contracted the bug from soldiers who had returned from Europe.

Also how many “Nidal Hasan” types would be sent who would willing infect themselves after leaving quarantine zone with smuggled vials of active ebola cultures????

[ Once the blood arrives, use it to taint 1,000 hypodermic needles.

And give them away for free to drug users in ten major cities. ]

I would be damned surprised if ISIS/ISIL/Yabba Dabba Doo agents haven’t already gone into the hot zone and become infected or taken vials of infected blood with them, entered mexico, then infected themselves then walked across the border using their own blood to infect needles and start handing them out to junkies...
