Adrian Peterson Suspension Shows Vikings, NFL Care About One Thing: Cash
The Bleacher Report ^ | 9/17/14 | Mike Freeman

Posted on 09/17/2014 9:11:44 AM PDT by AT7Saluki

The announcement from the Vikings came at about 2 a.m. Gutless Standard Time.

That means it took the team about 14 hours to cave from public pressure. "Cave" is the wrong word. Cower, run, scamper, bolt, run frantically and chickens--t might be better.

In one moment, the Vikings were saying that Adrian Peterson deserved due process. In the next, he was effectively suspended. I'd have more respect for the team if it stuck by its wrongheaded stance. Instead, the Vikings basically said: We stand by Adrian Peterson and will let due process play out...ah hold on, sponsors are pulling out. OK, bye Adrian.

No, the Vikings were not a profile in courage or aptitude.

Just a short time ago, the Vikings sent general manager Rick Spielman out to the media, a sacrificial lamb in what was one of the worst press conferences of all time. Spielman made Baghdad Bob look like Henry Kissinger. It was a disgrace particularly since Minnesota ownership was simultaneously hiding under its mahogany desk.

Then came the Vikings' statement, released in the wee hours, which sounds like it was written by The Onion. This sentence in particular, if this wasn't such a serious case, would cause bellyaching laughter: "We appreciate and value the input we have received from our fans, our partners and the community."

Spot on. Once again a small, vocal minority driving societal behavior.

Forgive me if someone else has said this:

He’s probably better off not playing. I have a feeling some defensive players would love nothing more than mete out some justice themselves after seeing those pics.

Did he raise a few welts, or did he leave the kid looking like hamburger? I never spanked with anything but my open hand - but I don't think Peterson did anything comparable to knocking a woman out cold.

I don’t think it’s very small. Those pictures are pretty disturbing and anybody who has seen them would probably rather not be in a position to cheer for him. Yes the Viking only pulled him because of the money, but it’s a business, it exists to make money. People get to moral judgements, and sometimes that gets to direct our spending, which helps businesses figure out the correct path.

If this guy couldn’t carry the rock like he can you never would hear about this case.

If he had been the 53rd guy on the roster and this story came out, they would have cut him without further comment so yeah, you're right...

Multiple open wounds on a four year old’s legs. He also admitted to hitting his scrotum.

he might be over disciplining as a reaction to what is going on with the black community with so many fatherless homes, so many "boys" growing up bad....

he went overboard....he denies trying to harm his son for life...

what is telling is how quickly these elites swing their opinions which ever way the wind blows..

Just like many of the fans tolerating the PC nonsense across the leagues.

I’ll start paying attention when the sociologists at ESPN start talking about the undeniable racial component in the players’ deviant behavior....

Damn. I like to think he's not a bad guy - but the league and the team need to firmly distance themselves from his acts.

The headline is quite “funny” in that NFL fans show up to see marquee members play. The Vikings will realize a reduction in attendance during the time that AP sits.

A “faux-outrage” and “social-conscience” will come back to bite these fools.

Funny you should mention that because ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd two days ago on his radio show specifically mentioned Charles Barkley's comments this past Sunday that corporal punishment against children was very common in the US Southeast among blacks. Cowherd specifically said the few times he met Adrian Peterson, he could see something about Peterson being a tad too angry emotionally at times.

He was not given Due Process.

Further, he was reproving his son.

Went a bit far? Sure but, what parent hasn’t.

I never got so much as a welt but, my brother did and he had it coming.

Strong willed and quick witted, he refused to cry during a whooping and would mouth off saying “You can hurt steel!”.

He’s a good man today and an awesome father to his son.

We turned out allright.

6 kids and not a one who is an alcoholic, drug user, never took advantage of another person and very much into helping others.

We all make money. Lots of it and above the table.

Charity, empathetic and guide people to a better path.

My cousins got the switch and a pig whip. Blood was drawn but, they, like use, are very succesful at everything.

We all got the right upbringing and will help just about anyone.

Charity is big with us. Important even.

In fact, we all feel it’s our duty.

Excellence in all endeavors is our goal. We don’t think about it. We just do it and have zero desire for recognition.

It’s a great life if you don’t weaken.

Don’t take life so seriously. It’s not like anyone gets out of this thing alive.

Mistakes happen and a smack on the azs gives you feedback as to what’s right.

Send the guy to some counseling thing if you must but, teach your children what is right, leaving an indelible mark on the mind.

it should torture your mind, so recall what is the right decision.

I would agree IF he had all of his kids with the same woman and lived with her.

But he has all of his kids with different women, so it makes me question just how much of a “father” he really is.
