Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz differ on lame-duck activity

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is breaking with conservative Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee over the legislative prospects for the post-election lame duck congressional session.

While Cruz (R-Texas) and Lee (R-Utah) have been raising alarm surrounding any significant legislation moving through Congress during the lame duck, McConnell told reporters on Tuesday that he had little fear that controversial legislation would be jammed through by senators and representatives that just lost their seats.

“There’s almost no likelihood that the House will become Democratic. So I am personally not fearful that bad things will happen to the country during the lame duck, because I think the House will prevent that,” McConnell said.

Last week, Cruz and Lee sent a confrontational letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that warned they will object to swift consideration of any non-emergency legislation during the lame duck period.

Asked for comment on McConnell’s remarks, a Cruz spokeswoman pointed back to that letter, which read in part: “Deliberately planning to reconvene the Senate in a lame-duck session to address major new legislation would subvert the will of the American people, lessen accountability, and do lasting damage to the dignity and integrity of this body’s proceedings.”

Retiring and ousted representatives and senators should no longer be making policy for the people!

But get this line from McConnell: “We have to get to the lame duck before we decide what’s possible,”

Sound familiar?? "We have to pass the bill in order to find out what's in it."

All legislation after an election, before the start of the next Congress should require a ‘super majority’ in the House AND Senate. Time to shoot those lame ducks!

The difference I see between the two men:

McConnell has the same goal as democrats just a different perspective, he wants communism just as much as they do, only at a much slower pace, with rino’s in control, he wants it slower to make it much more palatable to the populace so as to have limited resistance to rino authority.

Cruz wants to preserve a Constitutional Free Republic and destroy the communist democrat/rino party.

When you reduce each mans perspective to its lowest common denominator...It is as simple as that!

I’m in KY. I’m voting for Grimes. For the first time since 1972 I’m voting for a democrat.

It’s a clash of priorities. Getting the senate for the GOP is almost my highest political priority. But if the R’s are merely a bunch of RINO’s, not only is nothing gained, but it could be even worse in the long run.

The higher priority is cleaning out the RINO’s. I get my chance this November.

That’s because one is a bona fide leader and the other is bought and sold by the Chamber of Cronyism.
