Wilton Manors is a thriving town thanks in large part because of the vibrant gay community. That’s why a hate crime against a gay man has reverberated strongly through the city. The crime happened early Tuesday morning on the 2200 block of Wilton Drive. The victim said a man approached him and began calling him a gay slur. The suspect then started throwing rocks at the victim, one of which hit him in the stomach.

Thus, the opening line that Wilton Manors is “thriving” BECAUSE of the sexual behavior of the population is unproven and ought to be taken with a grain of salt.
It sounds rather fictional. “Early morning,” no witnesses, no description, presumably no physical evidence.
I’m guessing a made up crime...

I haven’t lived in Ft. Landerdale for 15 years, but when I did, Wilton Manors was a dump and hardly thriving...
I can’t imagine it has improved...since then....
NBC. They lost me with the oxymoron, ‘vibrant gay community’.
My advice: If anyone -- straight, gay or bi -- starts throwing rocks at you, RUN AWAY!

WTH??? What has happened to this nation when a news station promotes themselves as a gay station???
20 black youths beating a white man yelling “honkey” “whitey” “white boy” “crackuh” no problem for Holder. Once Holder’s people are done investigating and prosecuting Miller in Ferguson I’m sure swarms of FBI AFT DHS EPA and anyone else with a SWAT team will descend on this gay community.
How do you get hit in the stomach with one of several rocks thrown at you? The story would be much more believable had he claimed to have been hit in the back. (I’d still be skeptical, but perhaps a little less so.)

Probably got rolled by someone he was trolling for sex.
In the story it mentions the perp followed him for a block and a half and then got back in his car.
How did the victim know he got back in his car? Did he just stand out there watching?
Was the guy’s car parked in front of the victim’s house?
Lots of odd questions in this one.
Sounds more like a lover’s quarrel.
The headline should be “Manor Queer Rocks”
“Vibrant” gay community? Half of them probably have aids and the other half God knows what.
This will become a national headline if the perp is Christian. The story will disappear if a muslim threw the rocks.
