When the Baltimore Ravens released Ray Rice earlier this week, the NFL followed suit with its own punishment and suspended the running back indefinitely. How long that suspension may last is unclear, but it sounds like Rice plans to fight it. Citing multiple media reports, NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk says Rice intends to file an appeal Monday that "will be handled by the NFLPA and by an outside lawyer retained by Rice." Initially, Rice received a two-game suspension in July, after an initial video showed him dragging his unconscious then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, out of a casino elevator in New Jersey in February. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was criticized for that punishment, with many believing it was too lenient for Rice.

I give it 5 years, tops, and no one will recognize the sport.
The way the NFL has treated conservatives by banning ownership, using halftime for gun control debates, forcing us to endure the never ending pink ribbon ceremonies, etc., I don’t blame someone for wanting it’s destruction.
I don’t want to see its destruction because I love football but I do want massive change in the structure and leadership.
Find a leader to make it about football again and any criminal behavior will be dealt with openly and quickly. No more excusing thuggery.

Why is the burden on the NFL? We have a legal system in this country. Criminal activity should be punished in the criminal courts. If the league wants to take action beyond that, fine. But these guys are on the field because the legal system allows it.

This is much to do about nothing. . . doesn’t anyone talk about the “on the field talent anymore” rather than the “off the field” shenanigans. These owners, coaches and players are laughing all the way to the bank and the fans are being taken to the cleaners with ticket prices, food, parking not to mention the memorabilia that many purchase. And don’t forget the “wonderful” role models this game of football is now providing kids. Think about it. Football is no longer a sport. . .it is a spectacle.
You ever heard of equal justice under the law?
An NFL Player has special justice under the law and then they get special treatment beyond what our employers would do for us.
There was an article in WP that described how the NFL covers crimes up for the player and would trash the victim just to protect their investments.
If I’m going to spend money on NFL Merchandise I want to know that NFL is being honorable and encouraging their players to be good citizens and stay out of trouble, not just hide it better.

Other than that the law is pretty clear that members of unions/bargaining units must be dealt with according to the rules in force at the time of an act committed.
He will probably win the monetary part of this appeal. The NFL doesn’t have to let him play another down but they have to pay off his entire contract.
I am aware of the “act in the best interests of the league” type rules, but those will probably be held unenforceable from a salary perspective.
He already gets to keep his $13M signing bonus.
He is scum but the law applies to scum and angels equally.

That has nothing to do with this case.
This is an employer/employee issue.

Neither. “Double jeopardy” is exclusively a legal concept and only applies to the criminal courts. Collusion is acts by multiple parties specifically to circumvent law.
This would be at most be an arbitrary act by an employer in violation of a collective bargaining agreement (assuming the NFLPA agreement says that once a punishment has been meted out it cannot be then replaced with a worse one — which it probably does).
This whole thing should be directed at the prosecuter and judge which allowed Rice’s “deal” and this case

EXACTAMUNDO why I want Goodell gone.
His shabby treatment of Rush, and the glorification of Michael Sam, plus the obvious cover-up of the Ray Rice beat-down= Goodell is a POS.
He can take his 40 MILLION per year and stuff it.
I’m not into sports at all, but the players I happen to see and stories I hear makes me wonder, are there any white athletes anymore?
