Was Ferguson the beginning of a new civil rights era?
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | September 14, 2014 | Patrik Jonsson

Posted on 09/14/2014 12:54:14 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Ferguson became a Selma-like moment for the 2010s – to the extent the stark images caused a nation to stop and reflect on the state of racial relations in America. Moreover, a new generation of activists, who were not weaned on the nonviolence of the Civil Rights Era, is coming to the fore.

Ferguson, Mo. — Burly, with tattoos and a bandanna over his face, Anthony Pruit stepped up to the Missouri State Highway Patrol captain trying to cool the tensions that engulfed Ferguson, Mo., in protests and riots this summer.

“We hurt, we broken, and we ain’t all criminals,” Mr. Pruit said.

He then pulled down his bandanna to show his face, which was by then streaked with tears. “How can y’all fix this?”

That show of vulnerability in the face of authority from a tough-looking young man became one of many iconic moments from two weeks that defined a rough summer for America.....

Does anyone, white or black, in the media, have the guts to grab some black spokesperson for Ferguson and ask a few simple questions on camera?

1. Is there racial abuse on blacks from police in Ferguson?

2. Was Brown an upright, law-abiding citizen of Ferguson?

3. Was there any evidence that Brown would assault an authority figure?

4. IF there were evidence that the officer who stopped for Brown was injured while sitting in his patrol car, should the police officer not have used force on him?

5. What if the officer being attacked were your son?

6. Was Dr. King wrong about wanting people to be judged based on their character?

http://www.csmonitor.com/About/Staff/Patrik-Jonsson

Patrik Jonsson is the Atlanta-based correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor, covering the South — both physically and philosophically — from the paper’s small basement bureau on Locust Street. Having emigrated to the United States from Sweden as a 10-year-old, Patrik began writing for American newspapers at age 16, covering high school sports for the Foster’s Daily Democrat in Dover, NH. He parlayed that into a full-time writing gig a few years later at the Exeter News-Letter, where he covered town meetings, fires and car accidents. He also worked at the Portsmouth, NH, Press, Portsmouth, NH, Herald and the Deming, NM, Headlight before launching a freelance career that included sending dispatches to the Monitor and the Boston Globe from Raleigh, N.C., starting in 1999.

He was hired by the Monitor as a fulltime staff writer in 2005 after covering hurricane Katrina’s immediate aftermath for the paper and moved to Atlanta. Among many other things, he writes about race, gun rights, tornadoes, extremist groups, hockey, and the tea party wing of the Republican Party, with the occasional weird animal story thrown in for internet posterity. Patrik lives in a small 1920s-era bungalow in Atlanta’s Kirkwood neighborhood with his wife, Alice, and two children, Jake and Lena. When he’s not in the bureau or taking care of the kids, you’ll most likely find Patrik playing hood hockey — an urban version of street hockey — or chugging along some Southern waterway in his motorized canoe. He is probably the only Monitor correspondent with a commercial fishing license.

The title talks about “a new civil rights struggle” but then says absolutely nothing about what “rights” are being violated, or struggled for.

Many so-called journalists now don’t know the meaning of words - only slogans.

Liberals will never get over the 1960s, especially their revisionist fantasy history of it where they think 100% of Democrats were for civil rights and 100% of Republicans were against it. Liberalism is truly a mental disorder, it really is. Everytime they protest all they care about is play-acting in that revisionist fantasy, they could care less what they are protesting about which is why to the sane their protests make absolutely no sense.

I’m still waiting for one shred, one scintilla of evidence that ANYTHING related to this Michael Brown case had racism involved. Where is it? This is all assumptions made by absolute morons before anything is brought up in court. Al Sharpton leading protests, against WHAT? Where’s the evidence Al that Brown was shot because of racism? What exactly is he protesting? Does he even know? Funny how nobody asks him that to his face, I sure as hell would. All those speeches he was giving, all the screaming, where’s the evidence of racism Al?

Here's a bio for the commie author (bonafide commie; but not a millennial. Probably a Gen-X, because the oldest millennials entered the work force about 2001-02).

No. Racism is only the prologue to this complicated story.

Ferguson racial events are s a manifestation of dissatisfaction with society’s general trajectory. I.E down hill. Collapse of morals and ethics. A judicial system reverting to the rule of opinion, and the general devaluation of being an American citizen. — Failed Obama administration.

It always starts with the lower prong of society since they cross the tolerable threshold first. Which black America fits right and the predominant reason for that is not because of white racism, but at this point in history, self-inflicted.

If you physically touch a police officer when they don’t want you to, count yourself lucky if you don’t get seriously hurt. Try and take his gun, or do something stupid that could lead the cop to believe you’re trying to get his gun, and you’re gonna die barring an act of God. Every Black knows this. Every White knows this, every anybody with an IQ of 90+ knows this.

There’s a lot of truth to that. You may very well have put your finger on what needs to the focus of any “honest discussion of race in America.”

I’m sick of hearing these idiots talk about an “honest discussion about race” when what they really mean is shut up and accept our unconditional list of demands.

the answer is no because the messiah is soon to be crucified and that will set civil rights back a decade or so. when the messiah is lost the cities will become en flamed and looters and rioters will go absolutely out of control

Assault rifles and shot guns will kill those that attempt to invade suburban homes as they attempt to escape the hell of the disintegrating cities.

Only if we begin discussing the racism of cities full of blacks being “governed” by democrats but in reality being expiated. I read that Ferguson was practically funded by picayune fines on their citizens, while real crime was not prosecuted. Chicago on a smaller scale?

No,Ferguson was about fund raising for Tawana Brawley’s best friend and about the desire of some in the area to get a free flatscreen,a free cellphone (those that don't already have an ObamaPhone) and free liquor.
