Have these people thought this Scottish separation thing through very thoroughly?

The establishment always rallies against anyone who shows the slightest sign of independent thinking.

OK, somebody tell us Americans what the big deal is about Scottish Independence. Why would this be a bad thing?

I think its a good thing.

Think of it this way

George Soros, the Globalist and the E.U. are all against it.

These are the same people that want to weaken the United States, end its sovereignty by opening the borders, throw out the U.S. Constitution and believe in a global government that pushes lies like Global Warming.

So if they are against it, then I’m for it.

It will strengthen the U.S. dollar at the very least since it will be seen by investors of the E.U. as a crack in a Dam.

No great insight here, but I think carving a large chunk of the liberal vote out of the UK would perhaps help England in the long run.

The only reasons are taxes and business ones. Say over how they are governed too especially in the area of taxes and representation in the Brit Parliament.

My Scott ancestors have been fighting for centuries for independence from England’s forced rule. Always out numbered and over armed. You really have to know how oppressive Brit rule was on the Scots and Irish, they were less than human. The Brits raped and pillaged, and burned their way across Wales, Ireland and Scotland. And what the Brits did not destroy the Clearances finished, when the new English lords holding the property and those few Scot lords who curry England’s favor, removed the tenants who produced little, in favor of SHEEP.

From William Wallace to King Robert Bruce. Scotland has fought for its freedom from England’s oppression.

This got all tied up in the succession to the throne since James 1 who was Elizabeth 1 heir.

Time it happened. Would we as Americans except Brit rule again?

Actually Soros is against Scottish independence.

That's only because he hasn't hedged himself yet. As long as stands to make money, he could care less.

The biggest negative I see here is that for what I understand of the situation, socialists control the government and would control an independent Scotland. Sure, they have oil fields. Venezuela with kilts, anyone?

The establishment always rallies against anyone who shows the slightest sign of independent thinking.

And investors always pull their money from approaching financial train-wrecks -- which Scotland's independence and eventual socialist government will cause.

Give me strength.

This is the Union that gave the world the Industrial Revolution, spread the enlightenment and representative government throughout the world.

Scotland was never conquered, it voted to join itself to the Union. The clearences were perpetuated by the Clan’s own chieftains using mainly lowlander settlers to replace Highland subsistence farmers, NOT the English.

Thanks to the industrial revolution, Scotland benefited enormously from the industry and commerce of the Empire, till the point that Glasgow grew so rich was known as ‘The Empire’s Second City’. The Scots weren’t ‘oppressed by the Brits’ they WERE the Brits, alongside the English and the Welsh.

Scotland has always, from its inception, been a full partner nation within the United Kingdom participating in, and often leading, whatever the UK has ever done. It was never the oppressed colony you are making it out to be.

This Independence movement is a deluded leftist campaign that has sprung up because they think the rUK isn’t left-wing enough for them, and their typically naive leftist economic plans for independence will leave it not only poorer, but more dependent on England than ever, because they plan to keep the pound and lose all say over monetary policy without having the benefit of representation. If they vote ‘yes’ to independence, they really WILL be an English colony, but many of them are to stupid to realise this.

Two different time periods. When the inter marriage of rich born English girls were made with poor Scottish Lords, changes came. Which led eventually to the Scotland of today.

The Scotland of today in no way resembles the Scotland of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. And yes their own clan Laird’s did the Clearances, sheep were more profitable. GREED pure and simple over people. You add in the potato blight/famine and many fled of their own accord to the USA or Canada. Or were burned out by their greedy Lairds to raise more profitable sheep. Who are dumb and can’t fight back.

Which is why my and many others ancestors ended up in the USA or Canada. Would I want the old system back NO. NO more than I want the current socialistic situation in the USA to stay.
