As the United States begins to deepen ties with moderate Syrian rebels to combat the extremist group ISIS, also known as the Islamic State, a key component of its coalition appears to have struck a non-aggression pact with the group.
According to Agence France-Presse, ISIS and a number of moderate and hard-line rebel groups have agreed not to fight each other so that they can focus on taking down the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Other sources say the signatories include a major U.S. ally linked to the Free Syrian Army.
The deal between ISIS and the moderate Syrian groups casts doubt over President Barack Obama's freshly announced strategy to arm and train the groups against ISIS.
The AFP report cited information from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based group monitoring the Syrian civil war, which said parties to the agreement "promise not to attack each other because they consider the principal enemy to be the Nussayri regime." The term Nussayri refers to the Alawite ethnic group that Assad and many of his supporters belong to. AFP said the agreement was signed in a suburb of the Syrian capital, where ISIS has a strong presence....

Would any of this have happened if US fought its own wars instead of arming others? Using mercenaries never turns out well, for one reason the empire goes overboard being aggressive and stupid.
moslems working with moslems to bring back the madhi!
You mean like Snopes?
so they are forming a more coalition than what Obama can make.
Ah remember the good ole days when we had the left saying there was a cowboy in the white house who knew nothing but that cowboy could make coalition, keep mad muslims from expanding and acting up, and our allies respected us while our enemies feared us.?
I never go on loon left wing sites like DU , but I find it hard ot believe they can still defend obama after all these years, surely even they have woken up to seeing a clown in the white house.
Rather than Keystone cops, I would prefer to interpret the article as meaning that “the enemy of my enemy, is my friend”
That is, the disparate Syrian groups have chosen to put off killing each other until Assad is gone. Once that is accomplished they can deal with each other.
The hapless Obama might be a Keystone copish character but he seems out of the loop at present. With the incursion into Iraq and the capture of heavy weapons, the situation in Syria is drastically altered.
A spokesperson for the family of Steven Sotloffthe journalist gruesomely murdered by ISIL last weekaccused "so-called moderate Syrian rebels" of helping the Islamic terrorist group to capture Sotloff in exchange for a cash payment.
Speaking for the Sotloffs, Barak Barfia friend of Sotloff and research fellow at the New America Foundationtold CNN's Anderson Cooper that "sources on the ground" had confirmed that moderate rebel groups were complicit in the crime.
Those would be John MeCain's "Moderate" friends.
If you can’t beat ‘em...join ‘em.
Pretty soon Nanny Pelosi will be wearing a burka with an ISIL logo and posing for “head” shots.
Obama is using the war against ISIS as an excuse to finance and arm the Syrian terrorists whom he calls Rebels.

He started arming them even before the emergence of ISIS. That’s what the Benghazi operation was all about: running guns and missiles to the Syrian “Rebels”.
Or they could join forces with each other, al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and one hundred other groups and fight the Greater and Lesser Satans.
The US will get go to war in Syria, under one pretext or another, just like Iraq, and magically Assad will fall, and the Christian population of Syria will be wiped out. As it happened in Iraq, so it is planned for Syria.
It’s a step in the process of elimination all the Christians from the middle east.
What Obozo doesnt understand is that the “moderate Syrians” HATE the US more than they hate ISIS. They may not be head cutters, but they still grew up indoctrinated that we are the great Satan.
A year ago Saudi Arabia demanded a more aggressive Syrian rebel force and the United States government said no.
Six months later ISIS appears in Western Iraq and goes on a murderous rampage.
Today Saudi Arabia agrees to a US request to host an anti-ISIS training facility for ‘moderate’ rebel forces... funded by the United States.
That is how state sponsored terrorism works.
We’re about to create the same situation we created in Libya, and pretty much for the same reason. Most Arab nations are fragmented along sect and tribal lines, and the only way they can function in at least a semi-organized manner is for order to be imposed on them by a strong leader. When we start meddling by trying to graft “democracy” on them, we destroy the central government and leave behind anarchy.
The proper way to handle Syria was to leave Assad alone until he was opposed by a large enough, and well organized enough, contingent that there’d be the possibility of them forming an operating government that we’d like. Nothing like that exists at the moment, so we’re going to find ourselves fighting ISIS in Iraq and helping them overthrow Assad in Syria.
The smart move is to get the CIA’s noses out of Syria, leave Assad alone, and work on wiping out ISIS wherever we find hem. If the Syrian people ever get well enough organized that they can actually form a single power strong enough to take out Assad, we can figure out whether we want to support them at that point. Meanwhile, the ignorant and naïve “Arab Spring” philosophy ought to get the burial it so richly deserves.
And they will deal with each other, and the most aggressive, hostile, and violent of them will win. And the winner isn’t going to be one of our pals.
Completely agree. We do have responsibility to the security of the Iraqis to a degree. We do. If we see a Black flag in Iraq, we put ordinance on it. Period. If we arm anyone in Syria we are contributing to the beheading of thousands of Allowites. Stay out!
Not good. The islamization of that region continues..
There is an old saying about blood and water that applies here.
It’s a good thing the Moderates were ready to deal. Now the Sultan can continue to arm his ISIS allies through a more indirect route.
