NBC 4 ^ | Sep 12, 2014 | Sam Schulz

An arrest warrant was issued Friday in Texas for Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson after he was indicted on a child abuse charge for using a branch to spank his son. He won't play in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

The Vikings said they had deactivated Peterson for Sunday's game Friday evening, just after his lawyer and the Montgomery County sheriff's office confirmed he was

Read Adrian Peterson's lawyer Rusty Hardin's statement in full below:

Adrian Peterson has been informed that he was indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas for Injury to a Child. The charged conduct involves using a switch to spank his son. This indictment follows Adrian’s full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son. He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours. Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.

I was quite familiar with the back of dad’s hand. He also taught me to shoot before he taught me to ride a bike. We shot birds and rats with BB guns and pellet guns. In 4th grade Mrs. Maxwell busted a ruler across my behind. In junior high I must have been in a dozen fights. And that’s just off the top of my head.

I turned out OK, and so did my brothers and the guys I grew up with.

As I got older a switch no longer hurt as bad. One night when I was 13 I came home drunk from Mexico and my Mother used a 2X4. I never thought it abuse but I sure did hurt the next day. That was about the last time I got a whipping. This was in Texas too.

So spec it, if you know so much about it.

Don’t bother. They won’t hear you.

Oh, we heard alright, we just grew up in a more civilized society, and want the same for our kids.

‘Spare the rod, spoil the child’

The “rod” is the Word of God. Have you ever shepherded sheep? You don’t beat them with anything.

Why, it was always for a reason, JRandom. Every scoffer here will tell you that, right?

Your scary “outdoors” has no bearing on this discussion.

Don't ever live anywhere rustic.

You can lose a kid in a heartbeat for something silly that you should have trained them for.

There’s a difference between a spanking and beating. If you have to stop to figure out the difference, you should not be administering either.

The jury reviewed the evidence. That’s how our system works. Doesn’t matter what you or I think.

Stop acting like a disagreement is a federal case.

I don’t agree with you. There’s nothing wrong with that.

My mom used a belt and I lived to tell about it. I think ol’ Adrian is being set up....I hope it’s not worse than just a “switchin’ “!

It absolutely does have a bearing on why I got switched.

You don't want to see that, I understand.

Life isn't all paved streets and grocery stores.

Really.

People die for making stupid mistakes unless they are trained out of them early.

It’s not?

I almost never got any physical discipline, but I knew my parents weren’t afraid to use it. Just that thought I think helped kept me from ever getting it much.

I can only remember once that involved my dad - as well as a gauntlet of my aunt an uncle who spanked all us cousins for an incident (rather minir, too).

The only other spanking I can remember was from my uncle, along with his sons my cousins, in their house. That was a little naughty.

BTW, I was never a “rebellious” teen, either. I guess it worked.

Ok, then. Adrian Peterson’s son isn’t growing up with scorpions and rattlesnakes, is he? He’s in the coddled “paved streets and grocery store” group.

Still want to defend whoever bloodied up his 4-yr-old body? Go ahead, tough guy. We’re listening.

I never spanked my son when he was growing up.... But I damn sure threatened to a lot of times.

He’s now a professional living comfortably and making 6 figures. Just sayin’

Another chapter in the Sensitives war on football, war on men, and war on discipline.
Rename the Washington Redskins, however. I like Utah Redskins.

I think your somewhat mistaken. Applying a reasonably measured pain through disciplined correction is what the Bible is referring to and its a sign of love. Children don’t have their full faculty of reasoning abilities quite formed in the early years. Perhaps AP went overboard with it__ I cant say.

It’s disturbing that some here seem to base their conservative “cred” on how much and often they were hit as children, or how much and often they hit their own. As the saying goes, there are stereotypes for reasons, and libs understand that too.
