Salon Photo Implies That George Wallace Was a Republican

"It's disgusting." That was Salon writer Heather Digby Parton's declaration that Southern Republicans simply don’t want minorities to vote.

Hey, Heather, I'll tell you what's disgusting. Your attempt to smear Republicans as racists based on historical "facts" that are completely inaccurate starting with including a photo (after the jump) of George Wallace along with Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan as Republicans who supposedly wanted to suppress the vote. News flash! George Wallace, like Ku Klux Klan Kleagle Robert Byrd, was never a Republican. I hate to break it to you but he was a Democrat. In addition to the misleading photo, Parton's article is chock full of blatant attempts to rewrite history.

I'm guessing that Parton's historical knowledge is limited to that Howard Zinn book that Matt Damon loves.

I’m sure there are young Democratic journalists who actually think Wallace WAS a Republican.

Yes, and the KKK was all Republican—and Lincoln was a Democrat-Progressive. NewSpeak History. In truth JFK was more Republican than Democrat.

James Earl Ray was also a democrat and he volunteered for Wallace’s campaign while living in California.

If you were to poll 10 high school students, at least 9 would state the Republicans opposed the Civil Rights Bill, and started the Viet Nam war.

They would also think Republicans got America involved in WW1, WW2, Korean War, as well as Nam. And if Obamas War goes bad it won’t be his doing, it will be Bushes fault.
They have the public education system that will back them up on this.

MLK Jr. wasn’t a republican, and Mitt Romney lied about marching with him.

I almost feel sorry for the latest crop of liberal warrior-journalists - going forth to conquer armed only with a public education.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Nope. Go read up on what MLK, Jr. had to say about Goldwater in 1964.

6 ... In truth JFK was more Republican than Democrat.

I have heard Rush Limbaugh push this idea for 20+ years, i.e., taxes and economics.

Socially, I have to disagree. The 1965 immigration reform law passed under LBJ's watch, was in reality a carry-forward piece of legislation from JFK. This single law, may in time, be recognized for the incredible change it has brought upon the U.S. - 1960 U.S. was ~ 90% white, 2010 U.S. was 62% white. The U.S. Census Bureau, before the Summer of 2014 Central American Invasion, projected the U.S. would be 50% white by 2040.

Here’s a picture of segregationist Lester Maddox, the former governor of Georgia who once had black people chased away from his restaurant with customers and employees wielding ax handles.

Maybe they would try to label him as a Republican, too.
