Chardon High School shooter T.J. Lane has escaped from prison with another inmate

LIMA, Ohio - Chardon High School shooter T.J. Lane has escaped from the Allen County Correctional Institution in Lima, Ohio, Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish said.

Another inmate, 45-year-old Clifford E Opperud from Carlisle, Ohio is with him, Lima Police posted on Facebook.

Lima Police first posted about the escape at around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Lane is serving a life sentence for the shooting deaths of Daniel Parmertor, 16, Russell King, Jr., 17 and Demetrius Hewlin, 17, at Chardon High School on Feb. 27, 2012.

Lane's courtroom appearance caused controversy as he wore a white T-shirt with “KILLER” scrawled across it. He also gave the middle finger to the victims’ families.

Appears to be a state facility. Around 1600 guests, half are minimum security, 700 medium security, 100 close security and 8 maximum security.

I’m in the Cleveland area, closest metro area to Chardon.

Story has pre-empted all other local news on TV.

State Highway Patrol handles prison breaks. Supposedly they have helicopters with IR searching the surrounding countryside. The area around the prison is apparently pretty rural and wooded. I assume the two escapees should be relatively easy to find unless they’re pretty smart.
