Obama Plans To Fight ISIS By... Giving More Weapons To ISIS?
Zero Hedge ^ | 09/10/2014 | Tyler Durden

It appears that, in a rush to get his strategy out the door, President Obama overlooked his key "do nothing stupid" foreign policy plan.

So - to be clear - the strategy to defeat ISIS is to arm more of the same "rebels" that ultimately split off and became, well, ISIS?

Perhaps it's better if Obama sticks to his original "no strategy" plan after all... if only for the people, not so much the military-industrial complex of course.

Remember Those ‘Moderate’ Syrian Rebels That The U.S. Armed? ISIS Got Some Of Those Weapons Too

As the Syrian Civil War has waged on over the past few years, the United States, along with Arab states such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, decided to arm the Syrian rebels under the “Free Syrian Army” umbrella.

The shipments of former Yugoslavian Army weapons held by the Croatians, along with newly manufactured Croatian weapons, began in November 2012, according to The Telegraph UK. The weapons were flown out of Croatia on chartered flights to Jordan and then smuggled into Syria.

Fast forward to the rise of ISIS and their blitzkreig campaign across northern Iraq. An investigation by the arms control organization Conflict Armament Research has found that various U.S. supplied weapons have wound up in the hands of ISIS.

AFP reports:

The study by the London-based small-arms research organisation Conflict Armament Research documented weapons seized by Kurdish forces from militants in Iraq and Syria over a 10-day period in July.

The report said the jihadists disposed of “significant quantities” of US-made small arms including M16 assault rifles and included photos showing the markings “Property of US Govt”.

ISIS has failed CIA op written all over it. Supported by US arms and money, and then US lost control of the situation on the ground and ISIS went wild.

Wonder if he is embarrassed at all by the fact that they are Al-Qeada/ISIS terrorists?

They have to stick with the belief that “moderate Islamic rebels” exist.

Obama is a fool. No one will go along with doing what they were doing in Benghazi on a larger, more open scale.

This is just crazy.

I think he’s finally at the point that he realizes that his faithful followers will back him up no matter how stupid his ideas are.

Liberalism is a brain disorder.

Correct. It wouldn’t be 30 days after Assad was defeated that the terrorists would begin fighting the “moderate” rebels. And Obama would give a speech about how wonderful the new emerging “democracy” would be.

If anything, we should support Assad as he provided protection to the minority religions in Syria and kept the terrorists in check.

Agreed.

As unpleasant as he is, and he IS quite unpleasant (I usually refer to him as “Asshat” instead of Assad) he is preferable to ANY of the “rebel” groups I have heard about over there.

...and the Obama malAdministration now insists on calling them ISIL in hopes none of us will notice that they are the very same group to which this country gave weapons in Syria.

And moderate rebels use sharper swords - because sharper swords are more “humane”.

And where does Obama get the funding to be able to consider things like giving more weapons to ISIS without worrying about Congress? After all, note that the Founding States made the Constitution's Clause 1 of Section 7 of Article I, the power of the purse clause, to give the House of Representatives the power to withhold funding from a mischievous president.

The problem is that when Obama's first Democratic-controlled Congress passed the constitutionally indefensible Stimulus Program bill, Congress essentially foolishly gave Obama a blank check that Obama could do anything that he wanted to with, thus completely defeating the purpose of the purse clause mentioned above.

Note that James Madison had explained the purpose for Clause 1 in the Federalist Papers No. 58.

”The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse that powerful instrument by which we behold, in the history of the British Constitution, an infant and humble representation of the people gradually enlarging the sphere of its activity and importance, and finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure [emphasis added] …” —James Madison, The Federalist Papers : No. 58.

[ If anything, we should support Assad as he provided protection to the minority religions in Syria and kept the terrorists in check. ]

Think about Ghadafi, he was a bad boy for quite some time, GWB showed him strength and he started to realize he should moderate his actions, he started cooperating, then Obama gets in and “we came, he died, ehehehehehe (witch laugh)” .

Why in the name of God would ANY tin pot dictator ever want to even deal with ANY of our demands, even if they are “resonable” ANYMORE? The lesson was telegraphed aptly, if you cooperate with the USA, THEY WILL F**ING STAB YOU IN THE BACK!!!!!

Assad KNOWS this and THAT IS WHY is he is STILL ALIVE!

In that picture, the “rebel leader” would be General Idris of the secular (it includes Christians and Allawites) Free Syrian Army (FSA) which has been at war with ISIS for 2 years and has killed more Islamists than the Kurds have.

But of course this doesn’t serve the cause of reductionist politics where ‘they’re all the same’. Short of biologically wiping out the entire population of Islam you’re going to have to deal with Muslims and Arabs. Might as well start learning the good from the bad.
