A new policy put in place by Cal State University could cost InterVarsity and other Christian groups up to $460,000 to meet on campus because they cannot change their leadership requirements to include any student.
"No campus shall recognize any fraternity, sorority, living group, honor society, or other student organization unless its membership and leadership are open to all currently enrolled students at that campus," the policy states.
The rule requires leadership positions to be open to any student, regardless of whether they hold the same beliefs as the Club. The policy went into effect in 2012 but up until this year religious clubs had been granted an exemption.
Being a recognized student group had allowed InterVarsity to reserve rooms for club meetings and events at no cost. Still, the Christian group refuses to bend their belief requirements to accommodate the new rule.
"We estimate that it will cost each of the 23 InterVarsity chapters serving Cal State campuses up to $20,000 a year to rent rooms, generate awareness, and meet new students if we are unrecognized in the coming year," Greg Jao, who is leading InterVarsity's response to the new policy, said in a video message.
Cal State is the nation's largest university system with nearly 450,000 students on 23 campuses.
"It's particularly important that InterVarsity student leaders embrace scripture's teaching about who God is, what Jesus has accomplished on the cross, and how the Holy Spirit transforms us," Jao said.
InterVarsity has asked for support from outside donors and for prayer as they embark on new ways to accomplish the purpose and vision of their group.
"We may be unrecognized in the coming year, but we will not be off campus. InterVarsity is committed to grow our current ministries and plant new ministries in the Cal State system," Jao said.
I think if they want to stop this nonsense...emboldened Christians are needed to run for the leadership positions of say the Muslim and homosexual groups...when they are rejected(and they rightly should be)..they file suit stating they are being discriminated against! They can then use the notoriety of the case to point out the hypocrisy of forcing groups to consider leaders who don’t support the raison d’etre of the group in question!
Personally I feel they shouldn’t be doling out any public funds to any group in the first place...let each group raise their own funds and find their own meeting spaces!

A public university is a public space and religion is part of being human, and in America it’s entirely possible to have free exercise. I would rather allow everything than have to resort to religion police to enforce my religion rules.
In any case, I agree with your first part. Have bunches of Christians join the Muslim group and elected a Church of God Cleveland Charismatic as president.
What happened afterwards would be instructive.
Bet the muslim groups that are taking over student governments across this nation are going to have their cliques accepted.

The Intervarsity folks ought to take over a gay rights group - flood their meeting and vote themselves in...then discuss the sinfulness of homosexuality.

The Cal State University system should not exist, anyway. The top campuses can be promoted into the UC system - the rest transformed into “four year community colleges” and demoted into that system, allowing the dismissal of thousands of tenured professors in irrelevant fields of study. Would save CA taxpayers a fortune.
Join gay and muslim groups, en masse, and destroy them.
Are Muslim student groups treated similarly?
If colleges do not recognize Christians, they should not recognize anyone. That might be a good thing too. Students should focus on academics in college (and give their church the money saved from lower fees when they no longer subsidize social activities through university fees, so their church can support student groups).

Christian groups need to fight back by taking over gay groups.
All those Christians and conservatives can invade the leftist groups!!
Because La Raza and Muslims will enforce their membership through thuggery that would be pilloried if exercised among Christian groups, La Raza and Muslim-types will essentially be exempted.
In a almost a century of commercial flying, Christians never thought to bring box cutters onto airplanes to hijack them for suicide missions.
