Mind-Blowing Alfred Fisher Mansion Sells For $1.6M [guess where]
Curbed ^ | September 4, 2014 | Sarah Cox

The Alfred Fisher Mansion, the largest residential listing in Detroit, has sold for $1.6 Million in deal that closed in late August. Designed by architect Richard Marr and built in 1926, the mansion contains 15 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, a ballroom, sun room, and a billiards room. There is also an indoor pool. These listing photos don't do the interior justice (there's a strange party situation in the basement) but the grounds are looking lovely. When the mansion first came on the market the ask was a mere $1.2M...."

That would qualify as the maid’s quarters compared to the house that went on sale in Florida today for 139 mil.

Detroit is huge, sprawling. Many neighborhoods are ghetto, most neighborhoods are, but there are pockets like Palmer Woods that are still beautiful and intact.

Places like Corktown and Mexicantown are booming.

Palmer Park is a real city park quite large in land, between 7 and 8 mile if I remember correctly...Had mounted barns for the horses, ponds and the original Palmer log cabin...Palmer Woods was across from the park, all mansions. I use to go to Palmer Park all the time, lived there. (a couple miles away) but as kids we use to walk to the park...Detroit had some of the larges and most beautiful parks back in the 40’s. Like Belle Isle, sits in the middle of the Detroit river, city park about 7 miles long with its own zoo at one time and beach on the Detroit river...had its own herd of deer also, don’t remember the breed, not White tail deer...beautiful arboretum, with a room for desert flora and an orchid room with a small waterfall....At one time it was one of the most beautiful citys in the country....

8.5 miles from downtown Detroit and sometimes called the third wealthiest community in the entire country.

No security needed. You are welcome.

About 6 months ago I first heard about Belle Isle so I took a Google Map “drive” all through it. I was stunned at how beautiful it was, and envied Detroit residents who were lucky enough to be able to use it.

We just sold the first house we needed to sell in order to come home to Detroit. Henry Ford is my goal.

Maybe just one more year....looking very seriously at Romulus and 2-5 acre lots.

“I was, ahem, at a bar in the Briggs neighborhood just recently. A guy walked in, and lit-up a smoke. Nobody even blinked.”

That in itself makes me wish I lived there.

I live in MA. Yep,I’m a pariah. (And I really don’t care.) :-)

Belle Isle is a state park now. Another plus is the fact that it has a major Indycar race again. They started tearing up the roads this summer before the last fans had even left the island for a totally new track.

forbes

Detroit is not stagnant. Things are much different there now.

lowe campbell ewald

shinola

Whole Foods just moved there too I believe. Dan Gilbert bought blocks and blocks and is moving in businesses like Quicken.

Detroit will return the made in America/manufacturing to this country and hopefully provide something to buy that is not from China.

We're hoping to move there next summer.

Thanks for that video——what a beautiful place. I don’t follow car races but visited Watkins Glen once and watched a practice.:-)

I’ve never been to MI,but my grandaughter was there last weekend for a cross country college event in Northville. She had a great time.

Someday I’ll get to Mackinac Island and The Upper Peninsula-—please God.

There are some really great statues in Detroit including "The Spirit of Detroit".
