Truth of the matter is that, outside of Mark Levin, none of it matters at all.

It’s a complete waste of time.

There are not two parties, voting does not matter, thus talk radio does not matter, and neither does Fox News.

It’s all just a bunch of blah, blah, blah.

The reason Mark Levin matters is that he educates those who are still capable of being educated.

I live in remote rural area and have never been able to get Rush unless I travel. Since retirement, I get him on computer screening. I also have an Internet Radio and pick up all kinds of talk radio at night when I’m sleeping. :) My fav is a truckers channel out of Cinn OH and also Red Eye out of Dallas

Personally, I got tired of listening to Rush, Hannty, et al., after doing so for close to 25 years.

why?

Nothing changed.

For all the talk, there was no leadership and precious little action.

And commercials all the time. Even Fox News is alike one constant commercial. Even Rush’s show has a lot of time spent on commercials for his books and even tea, during the non broadcast commercial part of the show.

And not just one minute like the old days of TV. No, now it is four to five minutes straight.

Besides I get more news AND better analysis right here on FR.

And FR has done more political action than anybody since our first venture in October, 1998 at the March for Justice.

Our nation is at the point where talk is not going to be enough.

There has to be organization and actions to mobilize people to our point of view, or it will die out.

And all Rush or Hannity will do, is comment away on its demise.

They have made their millions. After the 2012 election, we have seen the steady march of the Communist Democrats since 1992, and in the most important election of our lifetimes, we blew it.

Now, the spectre of a regional MidEast war has passed from theory to reality, with a Muslim homosexual who hates America as our leader.

And no one, in either party is about to stop or thwart him.

The time for talk is about done.

Wish I could understand why posters don’t use the “snip” feature when cutting and pasting from an article. There’s a whole lot of the article before what appears here. Free Republic isn’t Readers Digest...

That article is full of it.

Of course, with many trillions of dollars being pushed into the economy each year under 0bama, these sorts of numbers made 0 look good.

Takes those numbers and divide them by per capita government debt and index the numbers to inflation, and you will see a HUGE difference to the negative.

Heck, even cutting the budget down to size would spark a big Dow correction (you mean the government isn't going to keep boosting the economy?).

We need to argue logic against these now perverted, formerly good, measuring sticks.

The owning companies have tons of debt. The right wing radio shows are very profitable.

If it folded, I think Rush would move to Sirius.

Iheart radio sucks.

I have 4gLTE and wifi at home and Iheart still abruptly starts and stops to the point I have totally given up on it. As for internet, I’m just too busy to sit by my computer to listen. I’ve thought about all my options including paying for Rush’s podcasts which I’ve decided not to do for now.

I do download and listen to Mark Levin’s podcasts for free everyday he’s more of a ‘red meat’ conservative anyway.

That’s too bad. Works great here. I bought a small FM transmitter and transmit my internet audio to all the radios in my home and I listen to Alex Jones, Rush and Mark Levin (who isn’t carried in this market) and I listen to The Blaze on the weekends, shows like Tom Gresham’s GunTalk on Sunday’s and Hollywood 360 (old time radio shows) on Sunday evening.

People are more on the computer, but cars still listen to radio more than anything else IMO.

True, especially in the oil patch. But out here in Oil Patch City (aka Hobbs), the local talk radio station changed formats two weeks ago to classic rock, both A.M. and F.M. No more Rush but Hannity and Levin are still available by satellite. However, Rush has never been on XM or Sirius so can't listen to him anymore on the road.

I listen to my local sports station because of the few commercial breaks. The breaks that they do have almost always coincide with non-commercial time on a local AM news station.

I have TuneInRadio Pro - the app has a free version, but the $2.99 version allows me to pause and record.

Just an FYI.

I would use Iheart a lot if it would just keep working but it doesn’t. Other people have told me they have the same problems with it in this area. It’s not like we’re out in a rural area either, we’re not.

I noticed you mentioned old time radio...

Here are 1,000’s of shows in mp3 format that are free to download as the copyrights have expired:

The reason talk radio is going by the wayside is the fact that Cumulus Media, after merging with Citidel owned all the “big” stations in the top markets.

Rush is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks along with Hannity. Premiere is owned by Clear Channel. When Cumulus did the deal they inherited Rush’s syndication contract and since they were paying anywhere from 10 to 20 times book value, they had to find a way to keep costs in line. Besides, you don’t want to pay your competitor for programming. That was why Cumulus floated Huckabee.

As the Premiere contracts expired, Cumulus didn’t renew forcing Premiere to move the programming to smaller stations in the same or adjoining markets.

This is all about one thing...money. Rush has enough money to walk away from the noon to three grind and not look back. Hannity has Fox News (for now) to provide a pay check. So either of them could leave radio and not be hurt.

The only way to cut expenses at a radio station is talent. If you can cut your labor cost, you can turn a profit. Both Rush and Hannity command a high syndication fee. If you’re Cumulus and you’ve overpaid for a property, you only have one way to cut cost, dump your high-priced national talent and go local, or dump talk altogether and play music.

Cumulus overextended themselves a few years ago to build up a large stable of properties. It looks like they may have bitten another large chunk with the ABC/Citidel/Cumulus merger.

What to do about the commercials?

If you’re at home when you listen to live talk shows, play something on TV you’ve recorded previously—CSPAN, Fox Cable News or Fox Business etc. Or go on line for previous Mark Levin shows for free. All this beats listening to the commercials or the top of the hour news breaks on the live shows.

The government sponsored PSAs, the “own your own oil well,” ads and the Heritage for the Blind jingle are beaucoup annoying!
